Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Today's Ford

Once a great place to work today offers a salary that is under industry standards, bonuses and benefits that keep shrinking/disappearing, competitive instead of cooperative work environment, and no way to advance your career other than turning into a brown noser. Did I miss anything?

The oval is in a transition big time. The question is will it work? This time this vision belongs to Billy. In watching the past three CEOs after Allan. You can see the difference in vision. Mark had a chance to study under both Billy and Allan. It was evident Billy was way in over his head. Allan was confident and he had a vision and a plan. Allan was the definition of a Leader. Mark may not have been perfect. but I think he learned and saw the difference between the two. Hackett was a clown and a laughing stock in the industry. Jim Farley is a no leader at all. No visionary.. and a so called car guy then why is he is a so called "GURU" did Ford walk away form cars? He came form Toyota. You don't see them getting out of making cars. In fact they figured out how to make money building cars controlling complexity. Not letting marketing shove low take rate options as so called revenue. Buildable combinations are out of control. An the clowns at the top keep touting we have to reduce complexity.. instead we increase. The GSR has ZERO say in this. Farley is a bobblehead. a Yes man. His body language tells us he does not believe his presentations. They want to shift jobs outside NA. Not only salary but hourly too. So people do not spend money on Big ticket items till you see what is happening or a better outside opportunity comes along.

Ford wanted me to read that book "Who Moved my Cheese?" I refused and told my boss the title made no sense, if it's MY cheese and you move it it's theft. He didn't get it till I explained that if I took his car from the parking lot and moved it to my driveway I could go to jail.

To the OP - Sounds to me like you are just missing some critical skillsets for the New Ford. Sometimes companies just seem bad when the environment around you is changing. You can't expect Ford (or any company for that matter) to just remain locked in time. Think about it -- I'm sure the employees making horse buggies weren't too happy either when Henry Ford (and others) invented the automobile/assembly line. These horse buggy employees had to change and get new skillsets in order to remain competitive. Sometimes employees just have to update their skillsets to remain valuable to the company -- otherwise maybe Ford is just telling you that they don't need you (I know it sounds cruel, but nobody is guaranteed anything in life except death, taxes, U-A-W jobs, and wel--fare benefits).

For example; try getting some training in creating tee-shirts to sell, or new ball caps, or pens with the company logo to give out at trade shows. Right now, there are people at Ford are being promoted (to very high positions in the company) that have that skill. And they are not here on this website complaining one bit -- they are very happy Ford employees! If that is not your interest, there is racing cars or working in the soup kitchen and telling the press how wonderful you are. If you really want to excel in a career at Ford, try learning about refurbishing useless train stations - who knew that was such a valuable skill to have at Ford? The "brown noser" skill you mention will work too, but I think (as I have tried to document here) that there are also other ways to remain competitive in your career at Ford.

Sometimes it is not the company that needs to change, but the employee. You need to consider a paradigm shift in your thinking about what is important to the new Ford is all. You have to discard those outdated thoughts (young people are calling them boomer thoughts these days) about working hard, having good work ethics, putting in a days work, showing up on time, product/work quality, attention to detail, efficiency, etc. Don't complain about Ford going woke or not caring about quality, products, people, customers, etc. Embrace it - identify the skills required at the New Ford and get the training required to jumpstart your career! The results you desire can only start with changing yourself, not expecting the company to change! Good luck.

If you still don't understand, read the book "Who Moved my Cheese?". When Ford spun off Visteon (and discarded all their employees to a dying company), they gave each employee that book to help them out with the transition. Ford was so generous helping out those past Ford employees -- maybe reading the book can help you or other current Ford employees, too.

For a company like this, it is better to tear it apart rather than fixing. Or will it fall apart on its own?

Ford is woke now and have disavowed every principle Henry ever had on making great and affordable automobiles. RIP Henry.

Yes, you missed that we are stuck with all the Ford family members who collect large paychecks for producing nothing of value.
