Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Hard to go up

It may not be that hard for others, but for me personally it is difficult to get a promotion here no matter how hard I work. Maybe hard work is not enough? I wonder if it’s always been this hard to be promoted at Ford?

So true @7jcr+1doSFljF white women over 45 are targeted for putting out to pasture and removal just like white males. Unless of course you are a Ford family member or married to a senior leader or otherwise on the friends and family plan

Has to be a young, or woman of color. If you are a woman over 45 and not "diverse". Forget it.

If you're white and male, you'll find it difficult to get promoted at Ford. If you're a woman, a person of color, or both, the upward path is much easier.

Well old saying. Just because you are in a position of management does not mean you know what you are doing. That has never been more true than the past 25 years. The few who knew what they were doing were run out by the political animals. Our quality sucks, Launch performance sucks, but don't worry TVM will save us.

Work in Purchasing, shortcut to top. Always the suppliers fault, no accountability, and ethics were abandoned years ago. Perfect Ford model for success and advancement.

The thing I realized is that once you start playing politics at work, the people who win at it do it as their major job, and in order to compete in the politicking arena, you have to do it also as your major job. Then you don't have much (or any) time for real work, e.g. if you are an engineer or techie and actually like the technical side of things. Which is fine I guess, if you don't like doing the technical work. However, some of us actually like it. So my advice is if you are going to do politicking, do it solid or else you will get crushed by the professionals. Don't part time it. However, if you don't play politics at all, you can keep your head down and work, for a while at least. Until they decide to outsource your department or similar. Not the highest paying career, but not necessarily a bad job.

Suck up to a LL5+ if you want to get promoted.

I've seen a lot of friends & family and now Conway promotions that had absolutely nothing to do with hard work, competence, qualifications or was the right person for the job.

@1ryp+1doSFljF the most telling thing is that you had to note that you had to continually have your shields up against the plethora of credit stealers and blame placers AND had to go around your leadership chain and promote your own work.
This shows the toxic nature of Ford and how one small misstep in your strategy of going around your leadership chain to do self promotion could land you out of Ford.
Those in the leadership chain spend all their hours on politicking and are inevitably more skilled at it than those who are working hard and part time politicking. Eventually the hard worker’s leash shortens, a choke chain replaces the leather collar, and if message not receive a Ford pink slip follows.

"and making it visible to the decision maker (may not br your immediate boss)" - I think this is very important!

One more thing to note …. It takes time to get a promotion, be patient. If you don’t get promoted in this life … Your hard/smart work will definitely get you promoted in the life after death. You know … it is Karma , you get what you do , either in this world or in heaven!

Don’t listen to these losers. Hard work and smart work together pays off big time. I got promoted three times in my career purely by working hard and smart in conjunction with making sure your work is safe from stealers and credit takers, and making it visible to the decision maker (may not br your immediate boss). Have faith … if you are a hard / smart worker you will get promoted.

It's a political thing. Look at all the incompetent people in extremely high places in DC. Look at all the incompetent people in high places at Ford. Politics.

If you think "Hard Work" is what gets you promoted at Ford.....how can I say this nicely.....I sincerely want to be nice to you....but, just how do you tell someone they are a fool without being mean.....I can't think of a way right now.

You want to get promoted by "actually" working hard. Leave Ford and start your own business.

Hard work is not required to be promoted at Ford.
