Dude is 68. Has plenty of $$$. When does he retire? Thoughts?

Hock Tan is 71-73. He likes buying companies/loves this job and has 1-2 more planned.
Honestly, the aggressive style has already shaken customers and shareholders. Nothing is worse than another arrogant "Only the paranoid survive" ego in the valley, and Tan is it. There is more $$ in volume in the channel... than there is in irritating and arm wrestling with the OEM's, injecting fear and uncertainty in the customer base, and making employees run for the hills anytime he is in the building. Sc--wing up relationships with HP, Dell, and Lenovo was STUPID. Selling Horizon was stupid. Trying to continue selling hardware with a software business (su-king NVIDIA's toe cheese) was stupid. Sc--wing with the entire value chain in app development in what was TAP... IS STUPID. He will be gone in 24 months.
Hock Tan drives the bottom line of the company. He dumps BUs that have no value (in most cases, net negative value). If you see him sell something to another company, avoid that company, they have incompetent management. Hock does not support goofy science projects but engineers love goofy science projects which is why engineers complain. Lots of BUs have managers that still lie about what they need for headcount to try and justify their position. Hock does not have the bandwidth to sniff out all the BS but when he does he cleans it up. If you are a share holder, you love Hock, if you are an employee with a small share stake, not so much.
Mr. Tan may never retire, but thinking there is no succession plan is incorrect. Just because people do not pay attention to details, it doesn't mean they aren't there...
maybe this is his retirement. this is what makes him tick.
retirement may be the elephant graveyard of irrelevancy.
why be irrelevant?
Depends upon how the software salad bar side of the business pans out. Will it really grow and scale….mmm….doubt it. Ranch dressing anyone?

Within 2 years. Charlie will take over, stock will shed 40-50%
He will never retire. He will either die on the job or be forced out by the BOD. I doubt the second scenario will happen anytime soon since business is so good. But that can change quickly. The one problem this company is going to have is it is basically Hock's company. He literally runs the day to day operations and makes virtually every decision. There is no succession plan in place. If Hock dropped dead tomorrow I think the company would spiral out of control.
