Thread regarding Raytheon Co. layoffs

Protest Today 10/08/2021 Outside of an RTX Site

Folks from this site got an email about this. Not clear if it's RTX employees protesting or random strangers protesting about milk and eggs (and just happened to choose a location outside of this site). DOES ANYONE KNOW?

One of the policy rules was: if you live in a state that prohibits mandates, then you don’t have to take the vax but you have to get regular testing before coming on site. They specifically mention Montana and say it’s the only state prohibiting the mandate. Well, Monday Abbott told Texas businesses that they can’t mandate it. Raytheon has said nothing about this and has yet to update the policy to show “Montana and Texas”. We will see.
I think, to the person that said it’s hard to replace people with clearances, you are right. It takes a year or more sometimes to get a clearance and then longer to get special program access. You can’t farm that out. They said not long ago that there were over 2000 engineering jobs available. They can’t afford to lose more. Our contracts have timelines and there are fees to be paid if you don’t meet those deadlines.
However, Raytheon is ready to terminate anyone who doesn’t report their vaccination status by Friday: so we will see how many more employees leave Raytheon because of this.
Yesterday, Collins Aerospace protested and many people walked out. Collins is owned by Raytheon. Last week L3 had protestors.

Some symptoms don't show up until decades later. Examples: 911 Firemen, smokers, tobacco users, etc. But I agree with the guy who says "need to pay me bills". So I took my vax and will try to enjoy my life for next 10 years before the vax symptoms appear. 😥

I can't afford to get fired. You can't collect unemployment if you're fired (you can collect only if you get laid off). Too many bills to pay. Can't afford to lose this job. Millions (and billions by now) of people have taken the vaccine and are doing just fine.

It's not about Raytheon . It's about government tyranny. If you allow the government to mandate this, what else are you going to allow the government to mandate about your life and your body? At what point do people simply not tolerate being held hostage?

You can debate the possibilities all you want, but that would require an unusual amount of coordination or if not coordination it would require a substantially significant sized group to go against the grain and not do as they’re told. I don’t know maybe the people on this site are more well off than myself but I personally can not quit my job. I’ve been applying to quite a few places recently as well and I don’t get as much as a call back. My colleagues are having the same issue. The hiring currently at most places seems to be stagnant. That’s all relative to where each of us are located but for me, and for the people in this building, there isn’t much left to debate on. The work will get done, with or without you. They will farm it out if they have to, they already farm out a lot of work. There isn’t enough people who can walk off like the old days with the unions, most people only want to do what’s necessary and that’s it. Go to work, go home. If they have to get a shot, most will and all these people throwing a fit and quitting will be long forgotten. It will end up being a pointless choice. I don’t want, nor do I currently have the shot, but the phrase “pick your battles” applies currently. This is a losing battle. I don’t know why y’all can’t see that. You can and will always be replaceable. You are nothing more than an object that does a required job, if you stop doing “satisfactory” work or you don’t comply with their rules you’ll be disposed of and replaced. That’s the current state for most corporations in America currently. Everyone is replaceable, the work will always get done.

I'll only say one more thing. As individuals, people with clearances are replaceable. But as a group they are not. All it takes is 5% or so of the cleared employees at each of the major defense contractors to not comply in order to make the mandate unenforceable.

Actually I disagree. The government cannot afford to yank those contracts if they actually want to work to be completed. Many of those contracts require people with clearances. Let's say the government yanked Raytheon's contracts and gave them to LockMart or another defense contractor. How are LockMart/else going to hire the employees to fulfill them? Sure, some of the now unemployed former Raytheon employees will meet the vax requirement, but not all. There would a permanent worker shortage, as you can't hire foreigners to do classified work. I'd love to see the average national guard member write and run a 6DOF code, let alone pretend they are nurses and doctors.

Here's the thing. Raytheon is obviously going through with complying with the requirement, because losing those contracts will do more damage to the shareholders than not. However, that doesn't mean that their workers will feel compelled enough to comply with the mandate. In other words, there is going to be a worker shortage of cleared people regardless, which could possibly lead to delays in fulfilling contracts anyway. Defense workers are not doctors/nurses; we can't expect that only less than 1% of cleared workers will choose not to comply with the mandate the way we are seeing in healthcare. I wish Biden luck.

This is the first I've heard of protests at a place of employment over the vax mandate. This is a pretty big deal and signals a problem that the defense industry has overall, whose workforce tends to lean right more than most. Should be an "interesting" next several months.

The forced covid shot. I will concede that it’s pointless though, even if the company did agree that the employees should have the right to choose (which they don’t) all the government would do is yank all contracts and then everyone would be out of a job. So that’s obviously not going to happen so I don’t see the point on this particular protest.

It’s employees protesting. I work at the plant on Lemmon Ave in Dallas and I heard about this. McKinney is only about 20-30 minutes from Dallas. I know a few guys who are going to the McKinney plant to protest also.
