I don't have much time left until retirement, but at Emerson it's not certain that you won't be cut even when you're very close to retirement. There have been many such cases. How close to retirement would you stay here, and how worth is it looking for a new and safer option instead?

You’re close to retirement…likely means you’re on a list and you’ll be one of the first to go in a downturn. Emerson would love to replace you with a cheap fresh grad. Or better yet offshore your job. Don’t wait.
I’m 36 so I suppose it’s leave then :)
With what I have seen happen in the past 5 months depending on your situation I would advise either 1) finding another job or 2) . Staying for a severance package and have plan B ready.
From what I have heard Emerson is providing severance per policy but that could change too.
I would say they are no longer a loyal company to a long time loyal employee. They are all about the bottom line and keeping cost down to keep our share holders happy.
