Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

How much do you trust your manager?

Just before several colleagues got laid off my manager here tried to act as if everything was in the best order, as if there was no danger that the anyone will be cut. Now that I think about it, it did seem a little forced. . . The other day he was so very optimistic again, full of enthusiasm, and I immediately remembered what had happened the last time he was spreading so much optimism. I don’t want to imply nor do I believe there will be cuts any time soon, but the whole situation has reminded me of how much managers here generally can’t be trusted.

“Who cares”? I guess you do since you took the time to post to this site.

Whatever, who cares, just a job, not like being terminated from a job is the end of the world…

Here’s a good question. How much does your manager trust you? How much should they trust you?

I have a great manager, and it is their jobs to keep us upbeat and focused. Sure there will be times good people get laid off, but like the below said it is no joy to let people go.

@igvw. You don’t know what you are talking about. Managers always know about layoffs.

Managers don’t know about layoffs until the day they hav to do them. Sometimes they get cut.

Be realistic. Managers cannot tell you your status before a lay-off. If you think they thrive on delivering bad news to people, they don’t. It is the worst part of a managers job to pull someones income source knowing that they will suffer emotionally and financially.
