Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why would you think not taking a sick day in 10 or even 20 years is a good thing?

Every time somebody mentions how they worked through their cold/headache/insert favorite ailment, I alternate between being angry and flabbergasted. Intel has managed to condition its employees to think that's normal behavior. That taking some time to get better (and protect others if it turns out whatever you have is infectious) is a sign of a lazy employee and working while sick is to be looked up to. Just think about how twisted that sounds. Take your days off, people. Don't normalize stuff like that, for goodness' sake.

take your sick days. I was misinformed by Intel about how much sick time an hourly employee is allowed - told it was 80 hours per year. I rarely took sick time because I thought 2 weeks was not much. When I left if it was all cashed out.

We had a CEO who thought that never taking sabbatical was honorable. He was fired, just like anybody could be.
