Lately, I’ve also started hearing some rumors again about layoffs that I hope won’t come true. Citrix is not a company where cuts are as common as in some other companies, but still, one should always be prepared because no one’s job is ever safe.
I care about my job and I would love to keep it for a while, I work hard, but many say it’s not enough to just work hard. I don't know what else is left to try?

Sorry to tell you but Citrix is a company with a track record of layoffs each time their earnings per share where not up to par... DH was a CFO prior and this is where he was relatively good but a CFO does not lead as a CEO does... No innovation, no creativity, selling part of the company and manage by the numbers get you only so far... Long gone are the years where Citrix had a proper leadership with Mark T to foster innovation and other honest and hard working executives around him... Don't wait for it and look around. Many other companies are actively looking for talent.
I wouldn’t try to keep my job at Citrix if my life depended on it. With DH out Citrix is a mess. Layoffs are next. Find something else!
Many managers keep the hard workers anonymous while they take credit for their work in their 1 to 1s. Management is substandard, leadership is substandard, both from people mgmt point of view and technology point of view - impossible to learn anything useful from them. Hard workers and people who take their work seriously suffer a lot at the hands of these chancers.
In other words the most creative bullsh*ter wins.
It's a popularity contest. Just like Tik-Tok, YouTube, or Facebook etc. - Like me. Love me. Look at me! Look at me. Just like high school. or sadly now real life. LOL

Though there is a difference between recognizing "outcomes + promotion" vs just promotion or "hard work + likable" vs likable. The issue is many incompetent leaders have twisted our culture and aren't able to distinguish the later and the former.
And for the example, judge a coder majorly by how well they code, not just by how good he/she is at bs-ing around.
Disagree with the anonymous post. Every large company since the beginning of time has required some level of self-promotion so people know what you do.
If you’re some back office coder and only your manager knows what you do - that’s your fault. You have to make people want to give you more money. Let them know “Hey you hired me to do this - and here’s a reminder that I’m doing so much more!”
Other than that - be likable.

Agree for the most part. However, the above two is the difference in the culture of what Citrix was until a few years ago and what it has become now.
"Be right" was preferred over "Be likable".
"Working hard " was recognized over "Self-promotion".
"Real outcomes" were measured rather than "marketing".
However, some pathetic leaders came, changed the culture and started encouraging behaviors where self-promotion was promoted while those who were actually producing results, were shut off.
The end result is for all to see. I have lost the count of so many top talent leaving every other day, while those that are left behind are mostly "self-promoting-good-for-nothing" opportunists and leaders.
No doubt the company is moving towards bankruptcy! Next quarterly result, and the EOY is not too far off. We will know in next 6 months but I don't wish to be here to see the end.
Working hard doesn’t do you any good unless you do some self-promotion and marketing. Make sure to take credit for the work you do - no shame in this. The peers of your boss and your leadership team should know your name and your work too. Personal branding.
Other than that - be likable. Either get an undeniable amount of sh-t done, or make it so people love working with you.
