I'm interested in what you think: is there any hope that the new CEO will make things better or is it that for things to improve in this company the toxicity levels need to be reduced?

A life of no hope. It's over they will be acquired by private equity or legacy tech like Cisco or Oracle.
As we dont even know who will be the next CEO nor what new leaders will be appointed it is impossible to answer to such a question.
Both need to be done (well now only one). I think people put too much emphasis on CEOs and office culture. A large portion of the toxic management still exists.
Next to go is the corrupt CFO Jason Child. He was under SEC investigation when he was the CFO at Groupon for cooking the books. All these investor lawsuits against Splunk is because he couldn’t properly manage earnings guidance and misled investors. He adds negative value in every CFO role he’s ever held.
