It took me a little over a month to decide that I definitely wanted to get out of here and about three months to get a better offer. I don't think any company is ideal, but let's say it suits my priorities better.
Given my age, I thought I would be looking for a job much longer. So now I wonder who are those who are failing to get a new job, if only they try and look for it?

When I left recently that was the hardest thing to deal with emotionally. Because no other employer, and I mean none, will actually make you whole on the long term comp that you leave behind at Apache. Well in excess of 100k for me, and I suspect, many people.
That said I’m fu----g thrilled to be out.

People can’t find jobs because the market dictates lower salaries. It’s likely you will take a pay cut to go somewhere else. Like that other poster said, the golden handcuffs hold people back.
Get your severance. Leave. In this order.
You better believe after equity awards hitting in January and bonuses the following month attrition will be high.
A lot of folks, myself included until recently, are willing to tolerate how stagnant and messed up Apache is for the pay and benefits. It’s probably the only thing we can really claim as premier.
