Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Job hunting

Everyone says here "Leave", "Leave now", "There is no reason to stay here any longer".
I know that I need to leave. If I could leave, I would.
I'm more interested in what helped those who found a new job to get it, are connections perhaps the most important? The problem is that so many candidates apply for the positions that interest me, that it is very difficult to be competitive.

if you're looking to stay in the industry, whatever you do DON'T even think about WB Mason. look at Mason's thread here on the layoff it makes your Staples posts look like kindergarden. While Leo was in charge it was a great place to work, he has turned over day to day operations to his id--t brother as COO. they furloughed 90% of outside sales force at start of Covid and aren't bringing ANY of them back. People with years some 20+ experience out the door with No Severence.

Do anything you can but stay away from Mason's

I left and you can too. Don't be afraid. The market wants you! My method: LinkedIn page at all-star status, searched relevant jobs on LinkedIn posted 30+ days and with fewer applicants (you have a better chance of being seen) and applied. Before Staples I worked for BIG NAME corporations, this time around I went for a small/medium fish in the pond and I could not be happier. I am paid more, less stressed and actually valued for the work I do. If I could help you all out I would, but Staples' damn not-compete prevents those of us who've moved on from helping the rest of you off of the death spiral that is Staples.

Agree with @omq+1dUt6MIV. Job hunting while having a job is much less stressful.

The above are all great tips to start preparing. If you don’t want to leave, then don’t. Don’t feel pressured but feel ready, when you get riffed. Take the severance and use that time to think about what you want next.

If you haven’t been here and your severance won’t be the 16 weeks max, then just get ready. No matter what company, it is always good to have your resume updated and ready to go.

Change your linkedIn profile to open to opportunities, your company won ‘t see it. Refresh your resume, follow companies your interested in and apply. Add recruiters and update your profile so it reflects what your looking for. Sycamore is a private equity company focused on getting their money back, selling profitable parts of the business, and do not care about employees. It is much easier to get a job while employed.

LinkedIn presents you with jobs that relate to your field. Secondly use it to network. Also contact head hunters, placement agencies. Remember, you need only one job, you can apply to many, but at the EOD, you just need one. Only leave if you are unhappy. Otherwise no need to do so b/c someone said you should. Good luck!
