Not a great time to be white, male, and over 40 at TDC. Especially if you are straight and conservative. KCC has you on her list. GTFO

Nothing like a male CMO getting replaced by a female CMO to get the 'straight conservative male over 40's" pa----s in a bunch.
@6vjc+1dTA2dJI Show some data. From my experience and contacts, Teradata pays much lower compensation than leading tech companies. There is a clear move to get rid of older white makes and most actions are not based on performance. They don’t even go through any type of performance process.
The phenomenon discussed here has nothing to do with gender or skin color, and is only tangential to age. TD has simply fallen prey finally to a sea change in IT that's been going on for 40 years. Namely the move from high cost, high gross margin (>50%) solutions to commodity products. This change has been ki----g outfits like IBM, HP, SUN, Honeywell, etc for decades. Being a niche provider, TD has been somewhat insulated. No more. Over 40ish folks are no less productive than ever. It's just that their fat margin era salaries are no longer sustainable in the current market environment. Painful adjustments are avoidable only if one is ready to retire.
I just don't like the undercurrent of ageism and harsh salary limitations of the 'rank and file' at TD.
When I was there my career path was hamstrung by my salary, having been hired at the top of the salary range for my position, which was more than many in the "next rung" for my career path were making.
After many MANY interviews for open positions even some for customers I was ALREADY familiar with and working with on a daily basis, I was passed over for younger cheaper individuals.
Once I stopped even getting responses on internal positions I was applying for, I knew the writing was on the wall.
I was "too old" and "too expensive" for TD.
So sad that the 'brain drain' over the past 24 months has hampered TDs ability to innovate and effectively support their customers, but that's always the end result of corporate policies of 'penny wise, pound foolish'...
Let's get clear about something. White males over 40 are in trouble, not because they are white, not because they are male, and not because they are over 40. They are in trouble because, on average, they have higher salaries and the ELT needs to lower payroll costs to compensate for their inability to generate the requisite revenue demanded by shareholders and the street.
I feel that all people are created equal and should be given equal opportunity.
No more, no less. We have all had challenges or issues in our pasts no matter our ages, skin color or orientation. It is not the job of a company to fix the past. That is our job. The company should just offer equal opportunity to all.
Why do we have to give someone a job BECAUSE they are black, white, male, female or g-y or straight? What does that have to do with their capabilities for the job they are being hired for?
I just want to get the job I’m qualified for. No special treatment required.
Why should anyone feel entitled to a job because they are special? You know what makes you special? How qualified you are. That’s all.
You missed the point. The white, straight, over 40 men at TDC are being pushed aside because of how and when they were born, and the woke crowd can’t even see how this flies in the face of what they are so passionate about. Treat ALL people fairly. How can any intelligent person argue with that?
@1uuh+1dTA2dJI You totally missed the point. I’ll help you.
I don’t have disdain for OP, or straight white men over 40. So you’re wrong there. I do have disdain for the “I’m the real victim” tone of OP’s post. Hating a person or group and disliking the action of an individual are different things.
I also observed that OP appears to have learned very little. In your 40+ years, were you implicitly and sometimes explicitly given the idea that men, straight people and white were just a little better than the others? Absolutely you were. It doesn’t escape your notice if you AREN’T a man or straight or white. I’ll let you follow the logic from there because I’m tired of writing now.
It will be fun watching the spitting cat fight among the new CMO and the entrenched toxic queens. They are going to undermine her any way they can. I hope the new diversity hire cleans house.
Y'all are so toxic. No wonder this company is burning down. Its not just the ELT but toxic people like those in this thread are equally to blame
@1yyy+1dTA2dJI You can have a respectful dialogue with people who don’t share your views. No need for the negative tone. I know the country is divided. That’s what the media on both sides wants. You might learn something and you may teach them something. Believe it or not, everyone who disagrees with you is not an id--t or bigot. Try kindness and respect for a change.
This thread is the best training on diversity. The whole company should have to read it. It’s respectful, yet does not conform to the wokeness that’s engulfed corporate America. KCC and SM can learn from this. Treat ALL people with dignity and respect and don’t group straight, g-y, male, female, white, black, etc. into a narrowly defined stereotype. And drop the victim cards. Anyone can succeed if they work hard.
I forgot to add straight in my last post. Looks like you have an issue with heteros-xual people too. Only one of us has issues with diversity-you. I respect people from all genders, age groups, and se-ual orientation. You should too. I have no issue with our new CMO and wish her the best.
You just revealed your disdain for white, conservative males over 40. Thanks for making my point. Hopefully now you wake up to your issues with diversity. Anything other than treating and respecting each person as an individual Is racism. We are all unique. You can’t project traits and negative characteristics on a whole group or race of people. #WakeUpTheWoke
Oh no a man was fired and replaced by a woman! This thread reminds me of that movie Ron Burgundy. I’m waiting for someone to say “I love lamp”. Stay classy “straight conservative white male over 40” lol
It's a wonder that some people make it to 40+ years old without learning a thing. Then again you're a straight white conservative male, so that tracks.

Utterly and depressingly predictable
I don’t disagree we have an imbalance of women in the tech industry. Hopefully more girls get started in STEM programs and enroll in engineering majors in college. So the candidate pool for women is small. That’s not unique to TDC. We need to hire people who are qualified to help win in the marketplace today. No matter what gender or s-x they are. When an unqualified person gets placed in a role because of a diversity goal it actually hurts more than helps.
Dont be ridiculous. At almost every internal meeting I attend I am the only woman. There us a long way to go.
@1xvx+1dTA2dJI Interesting that you immediately jump to “anti-diversity” just because I think we need to treat people as individuals, blind to color, gender, se-ual orientation, or age. That’s true diversity, not the divisive stuff HR is feeding us. Respect all people and make decisions based on skills, performance, and work ethic.
You are just upset that people are not saluting and apologizing for being white and supporting a narrative that Teradata even has a racial or diversity problem. I’ve worked here over 20 years side by side with g-y colleagues and minorities of every kind. Never seen or heard of any issues. I totally support affirmative action. Stop trying to create division. We are not accepting it and you can’t cancel us anymore with threats of calling us bigots. Move on…
An OP like this, and the anti-diversity rhetoric in this thread, is giving REALLY great insight into the Teradata we employees truly know. We still can’t figure out how we get ‘Most Ethical Company’ every year when people like this work there. Thank you OP for outing yourself.
She appears to be well qualified and it’s sad that all the wokeness makes people wonder if she was a diversity hire. It’s not fair to her. When can we get back to the color blind vision MLK had for our country? I’m sick and tired of all the division that the media and HR departments are creating. Let’s get smarter and stop letting them do this.
Ok but by her resume she seems more qualified than Martyn and has more recognizable brand names. I’m guessing she probably is able to spell better than him too…
If I was a “diversity hire” like the new CMO, I’d be offended that it was my gender and color that got me the job and not talent. So I hope our once great company can weather yet another token in the ELT.
The whole world is diverse, more companies are focused on DEI, you can't run from it, and complaining about it won't change it.
You go @uih+1dTA2dJI. I say we line up all the white men over 40 and have a mass firing. That will dramatically improve our diversity ratios.
You don’t have to be so immature. It’s ok to have a respectful dialogue with someone who is not in total agreement. Name calling is not helpful.
A white man complaining about “racism” towards them with a pinch of disdain for diversity? As a minority woman at TD, not surprised certain men (not all) aren’t happy with the changes happening in the world and within the company. Happy to see a new face as our CMO!
Let’s stop dividing people. Are we all created equal?
llz+1dTA2dJI, what a racist attitude. You must assume all white males over 40 are toxic. I guess you passed KCCs Privilege training with flying colors.
Sorry OP, your CMO king is gone, time to quit Marketing because he was the only one who encouraged the “white male over 40” toxic environment you obviously enjoyed.
