I was a part of the 2015 layoff and feel sorry for all the staff suffering currently.
If there's a single lesson learned for me:
Stay away from any company where Elliott Management has a stake in it.
This hedge fund people are ruthless, greedy and willing to destroy working companies for the sake of short-term money gain.

I lived through a similar gutting when another venture capital group that competes with Elliot acquired us, gutted R&D, laid off people, and split it up into pieces that were spun off. Our group was left with aging and uncompetitive products.
Dell had an all out war with Elliot. They even brought in as many investors as they could to take the company private and oust Elliot

It was market leading, had a great future and brand. Now no one remembers them (except for some old people like myself)
