So I've been at Staples as a cashier for almost two months and I'm already tired of it. Let me tell you why:

  1. Protection Plans - Now I know it's a part of the job, so I will ask the customer ONCE, but it's absolutely crazy how management basically hounds cashiers to basically keep asking until the customer caves. I actually saw a manager repeatedly ask if they wanted a protection plan until the customer said, "Whatever, I just wanna get outta here." Blew my mind.
  1. Rewards Sign-Ups - "The goal is 30% of missed," I don't really care. If someone doesn't want to sign up, I can't make them. Stop telling me that our store is getting berated on the conference calls because my performance will not change. My manager has even told me to stop asking if they want to sign up, and just start asking for their info because "half the time, they just give it to you." I feel so grimy doing that to people.
  1. Pay - As a cashier with years of experience, I'm only getting paid 5 cents over minimum wage (11.80). There are jobs out here paying $15/hr. Sorry, but I can't be stupid in the name of being loyal to a company.
  1. High Turnover Rate - When I started working, I heard from an employee that they were planning on quitting and that they were glad I was taking their place. Many of the people I started with have quit, due to the reasons above.
  1. The fact that I still can't explain the rewards program to customers because it's such bu-----t. Doesn't make sense and it's not worth getting if you don't have a business account. And even then I can't fully recommend it.

Yeah, I just realized I can't put up with a place that is so number-heavy. I just want to do my job without people breathing down my neck :)

There is 101 reaction and only one comment on it (a guy that says 'awesome, this is my first week')....
