Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Worst year ever

I have been working here since 2013 and this has definitely been the hardest year for me here. This used to be a serious and respectable company, but now it seems like a joke of a company.
I don't intend to stay much longer, but I'm interested in those who have been here longer, were there any worse years at TR than this one?

More than a quarter of a century at the company and ever since 2016 it has been going downhill.

Over 20 years here and the last couple have been the absolute worst. Relentlessly being pushed toward useless courses, forced to attend frequent Town Halls where they basically say the exact same thing over and over again. There is nothing enjoyable about working here now. Severance can’t come too soon.

I’ve been here 8 years as well. It’s a tough year that’s for sure. I’ve seen my fair share of change over the years here. I actually was notified that my position was no longer needed but should apply to other roles. I probably will just because i have really started to understand my role in the org. I am not able to move up the ladder due to location limitations and that’s ok. I really do not want to move up the ladder here. I will work to put in the minimum effort going forward. I will get paid the same either way. No motivation to take on additional responsibility. They won’t pay me for the extra effort so no need to try.

With this new found freedom I’ll apply myself elsewhere like a second job. It’s a great time for remote work. 4.4 million people quit in September on top of the previous record in August.

The company is not going to change their HR policies quick enough. It will impact the rest of us.

The only way the company will change is when the shareholders get worried. Miss a quarter or two and oh no time to change.

So no more being a whipping boy taking on extra work for the same pay. I’m just going to get to it when I get to it and you are just going to either fire me or accept it.

Oh and my numbers this year were outstanding. Helped to bring in multiple millions of dollars. Everyone is replaceable.

Back to your question, decide what is right for you. If you want to meander here there is certainly plenty of places to do so. Just look at Print.

If you want to grow your career and fast, this is not the place to do so. If you have been in the same role for most of your time here and want more. Now is the time to look.

The fast path to career growth is by going elsewhere. Simple fact.

Been fearing layoffs since 2014. Every year, they've been whittling down the workforce. Now this change program is rolled out to condition us to have our jobs moved overseas.

Writing is on the wall. Have a backup plan.

17 years and this is absolutely the worst. I was so hoping to get laid off this month.
