Thread regarding Emerson Electric Co. layoffs

Reputation destroyed

Aside from people who work here and want to leave as soon as possible, people looking for work are avoiding Emerson as well. People seem to be much more informed now about what it’s like to work here than I was when I came here and made the biggest mistake of my life. I think there are enough reasons why no one wants to work here we could list them for days....

I recently left a group of about 100 engineers, and I can think of about five that I would like to work with again. The rest had great jobs, job security for life, but no ability to survive outside the protective bubble of mother Emerson.

They can’t retain employees - even the younger ones leave within a year or two. Overload of work and leadership is unprofessional. Gossip, yelling, talking negatively about directors and managers, throwing people “under the bus” for personal gain. It’s all acceptable. Even telling HR doesn’t help - they protect people and shrug it off as “oh, well, maybe they deserved it”.

Some of the reasons not to work for Emerson. Cut backs. Acting as if someone got a promotion when in fact it's just adding responsibilities with no pay increase due to cut backs. Taking away things like pensions and adding pay increases to have them taken away with health insurance increases. Having one lay off after another than going to work a half manned work force for the last year to working 50 and 60 hours a week. Denying vacation and pointing out workers that have family issues and doctor excuses. Promoting Leader's with no business leading people lacking people skills and motivation, most being drunks with anger issues.

Dear Corporate Recruiter…
Sorry, but no.

  1. Recruiters don’t make policy or direction.
  2. Recruiters have a short lifespan in any environment.
  3. We tried to make things better. I spoke privately to the director and laid out what needed to change, how to change it and why. He did not act, and I left after more than 10 years.

Emerson is where engineering goes to die. I used to think they were making a mistake hiring unambiguous recruits. The MIT grads wouldn’t touch it.

I was thinking about working for them but the more I talked to others the more I realize that everyone has the same complaint. They are old school and never going to change. They cut needed benefits to line their pockets at the expense of their workers. I will take my 6 months of experience and move on to a company that has a happier environment with better benefits and a happier workforce. It's a sad environment.
