I think the hiring gap in the 90s could have been overcome with strong leadership. Instead, Mother Shell replaced a GOM-experienced leadership team with expats and vichy Americans who had never worked this basin. The worst part is, the type who would take that position, the types who believe they can walk in and understand at all, believe that they are “The smartest people in the room.” …and they have sprinkled “their type of people” throughout leadership.

We had the best experts in the world in GOM deepwater in the 90s and early 2000s, early 2000s the expat takeover totally kicked in high gear and the husband/wife Dutch couples arrived to fat stipends to send their kids to the best private schools in New Orleans (30k/year each etc) and drag out VARS to hear themselves speak incoherent babble. They did nothing of value. They got paid better than everyone in the business unit and lived large in Uptown and Old Metairie while local SMEs were commuting 2 hrs a day to scrape by on the northshore. On top of this, The Hague constantly bashed GOM even though it was and still is one of the only places shell makes significant cash flow in a relatively stable political regime. The Hague was a clownshow but the Houston office also acted holier than thou in the America’s and brought us the embarrassment of shells foray into US shale. If you can’t even do a shale play right which any half assed engineer with little experience can do at a company with 15 people on staff - then your whole business unit should be dissolved.
They will continue to bash GOM but still rely on it to supply all their bungled projects. Meanwhile they keep promoting staff who have never had their a£@ on the line for a true technical project - just spent their time playing politics and invoking the ceos name in proper Dutch pronunciation to kiss a$&
Muppet, I agree. The management has to deliver with the staff they've "layed waste". In the end its their own backside on the line, so they've done no favors to themselves. Total incompetence!
Have you seen the SPS scores for the GOM? I've never seen so much red! Totally demoralized staff. Leadership is "blaming" people who got laid off so they don't have to take responsibility. They should just own it and do better. What a bunch of weenies!

That's the outcome of the 2015 merge of international and americas (UI/UA). Suddenly greedy expats could have all these gom jobs because deciders were from the Hague, and the suck ups had all the key chains well greased.
So true and so comical, but once again the people who are in charge believe all people who are in the field performing the work and making the money for Shell are complete id--ts. So when Shell fails and Shell world come crashing down they are going to move to another company high paying position and perform the same self destructive act to that company. By placing Woke people in these high paying positions who doesn't have a clue is another destructive act for failure.
