After my store was understaffed, they have now hired so many people who are completely unnecessary, that is, they will probably be cut early next year.
On the other hand, when I talked to a friend who works at another store they were severely understaffed. They don’t seem to even know which stores have which needs?
@3kal. Enjoy your commission while it lasts. The company made it clear that it is going companywide to open sell to reduce labor costs and increase sales.
@qbn. None of our shoe associates are on commission. Where are you located? What store?
We went from understaffed for over a year and now too many folks. I'm sure once 15/hr kicks in - no more commission and cut people and hours.
@qsh I work at HSQ. There is still commission in shoes, but they have a small section that is open sell.

Our store also has been short staffed since at least 1 year ago. The extended hours (opening before 10 am and closing after 9 pm) are not needed and without enough sales associates there won’t be enough help during the normal busy time of 12-8. Some days in some depts. we have one opener working 7-4 and one closer working 2-11.

You're crazy if you think your store has hired too many people! Our store had 125 open shifts last week. We are going into Black Friday with less than 2/3 the staff that we had at this time last year. And with sales being up, this all translates into a huge nightmare.
The schedules only go up until January 1st for EVERYONE. Just because all you can see is through January 1st that doesn't mean thats your last day with the company!!!!!
$15/hr and the colleague discount. Once the personal holiday shopping is done...so long!

I got hired into women's shoes last week and my schedule only goes up to January 1st so I'm guessing that'll be my last day there. They hired so many of us as draw commission in shoes that we're all literally fighting over customers.
Same here. They hired too many people at my store as well. I would think it depends on what stores make the most money but still it’s too many people. They should spread around cuz it’s not fair to the stores that are understaffed and people working too hard. I remember when our store was understaffed and it was horrible. I was so tired from all the overload of work.
