Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

I despise working for Walgreens

Of all the companies I’ve worked for, I feel the most undervalued here. Sometimes it seems to me that working as a pharmacist here is not much better than working in retail.

People are degraded to such an extent that it is unbelievable. I don’t plan on being here next year. I don't think there are many places that value pharmacists less than Walgreens?

Pessina + Babiak + Brewer + Brown = Total Failure. Was a long term employee and a long term customer. Walgreens used to have a clear sense of Purpose and a place so much Pride. Sure some leaders were better than others over the years, but Pessina literally planted the explosive and Babiak and the BoD facilitated Brewer and Brown lighting the fuse. No one else can be blamed more, period. Greed, DEI, and sheer stupidity brought this once iconic company to its knees.

True. Do not try to experience it yourself to believe that Walgreens is insanely degrading to pharmacists with the powerful preaching a failed business model. Inhumane to say the least. The upper crust, don't know how the crust earned the status other than secret society lack of ethics, d-mb loyalty and cruelty, will indirectly force pharmacists to work through all legal breaks and 30 min legal lunch. The techs given the upper crust power to do that to pharmacists serving the community. Shhhhh it's the Walgreens way, secret to their "success"

For the most part I don’t mind my job. It’s kinda boring and customers can be di-ks, also I hate the teens, but I like most of my co workers and we have some regular customers that I enjoy talking with. One of my biggest issue with Walgreens is the lack of training. I’m an SFL. I’ve been at Walgreens for 3 years. I started as a csa. Anyway I’ve been an SFL for 2 years. I have a hard time understanding how there are some issues that come up usually with customers and returns that I still don’t know how to handle. It leaves me feeling like an id--t. I had a customer who wanted to exchange an item for the same item. The customer didn’t have a receipt. The register said the customer owed tax. Both my CSA and I thought it was strange that it would ask for the tax. My manager came over and let us know without a receipt the customer pays tax on returns. Oh ok so why don’t I know that?

I worked for Walgreens in a warehouse return center from 1985 - 2014. I saw big changes through that time period. Walgreens really cared when the Walgreens ran the place. The new CEO's and VP's don't care about people. Thats a joke. Sitting in a meeting one time when a VP said he hopes alot of people get sick, so they can make alot of money. I wanted to walk out right there. Its unbelievable how downhill that company went. I will not shop at a Walgreens, and I had almost 40 years tenure with them. Trust me I can tell you alot of stories. Dealing with an issue right now with HR. What a joke. Can't escilate problems due to security reasons, Oh brother. As I fight with someone from India to get an answer.

It sounds like you have already decided that where you are working now is not a good place to work. I would say that it may not be about working at Walgreens, but about working at the Walgreens you work at, but I am not some kind of representative for Walgreens. I would never encourage anyone to stay and be miserable. Good luck finding somewhere else to work that values you.

Pessina may have made it worse but working for Walgreens was already cr-p under Wasson. I was not fortunate to work here when it was a good place to work.

I left after 14 years with Walgreens.
I was fortunate to work for them when they were still family owned and cared about customers and employees.
I left after they imported Pessina. He and his style of mismanagement have done more to destroy an American icon than anything else.
So sad to see.

Just a pharmacy tech in a call center but can't imagine working in a busy, understaffed store. Have to agree on how Walgreens treats its employees. We are treated like garbage. The micro-managing is insane. Absolutely hate working here.
