I’m getting tired of the competitive atmosphere such as the one at Fido. I have worked before in very competitive environments, but here it has been raised to a higher level. It’s not at all inspiring environment in which coworkers are pitted against one against another on a daily basis. Do you too feel like you constantly have to prove your worth here?

Agee- try marketing or government work.
Financial Services is a very competitive industry that tends to pay very well. High pay breeds competition - it's been that way for the 35 years I've worked in the field. That being said, some firms tend to foster a more cut-throat culture than others in which the constant question is, "What have you done for me lately?"
When a firm's product is money, you will be hard pressed to find an environment in which competition isn't fierce. Some folks thrive in such an environment, while others do not. For those that don't thrive, it is probably best to look for a position in an industry that is less demanding.
