Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Fight for your pay

$15 is becoming the standard minimum in Many of macys key markets, NYC, LA, NJ, SF, MIA. They couldn’t get any seasonal without it and there would have been an uprising if they paid seasonal more than full time.
For those FT/PT already close to $15, fight hard for your raise. Macys is desperate and needs people, and they are no longer as desirable a place to work that they used to be.
You, as labor, have the upper hand in any negotiation for the first time in your life. Ask for the world. Take advantage now, they need you more than you need them.
You can walk into any store of the mall, and get a job right now if you want to stay in retail, so don’t let them keep you at a really low rate.
$15 barely gets you above poverty level so fight for what you deserve.
Jeff and the other chiefs are making a ton this year in salary, bonus and their stock skyrocketed in the last year, so Macys has more than enough money to spread to the “masses” who actually keep the business moving.

Perfectly said, @1itq+1dJxAUIO.

With the increased rising of inflation you need at least $18 an hour minimum.

You hit the nail on the head. Prices are also rising in most areas, so anything less than $15 an hour will leave you way behind the curve.

I actually think that there's a percentage of retail workers with low self-esteem from this profession. The combination of low pay, abusive customers and degrading management is one of he-l of a bad deal. Some employees probably have deep seated beliefs that they'll never do better.

Take the higher pay in the short term. Long term, gain skills and network so you can escape.

California's minimum wage goes up to $15 an hour January 1, 2022. It's $14 an hour now.
