Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Connection?

EV acceleration in compliance with Paris accord, shot mandate. Is there a connection?

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, joined by eight other governors from both political parties, sent a letter to congressional leaders Wednesday, urging them to pass legislation to address a chip shortage that is hurting the automobile industry.

The governors urged full funding of the Creating Helpful Incentives for the Production of Semiconductors (CHIPS) for America Act, which they said would turbocharge U.S. production of semiconductors, including the types of chips that are critically important to automakers and parts suppliers.

There are mo such things as coincidences eveything from the economy to covid to vaccine mandates is going to plan only the blind think its an accident, incompetence, or coincidence.

The more you dig into the federal government and some state government the more you will realize the evil that rules over us.

@1xer+1dKXPhip nailed it with
“ transfer of wealth from our citizens to corporate interests”

@1cus, the lead time issue is definitely a factor plus the rather high cost of building fab facilities (generally multi-billion dollars)

However, to me it looks like this is just the gov't looking to throw money at businesses to do what they were already doing. In other words, yet another transfer of wealth from our citizens to corporate interests.

Not to mention the fact that set up a high tech factory takes like three years, which is a bit late at this point.

Thank the MBA destruction of America. Chasing profit, exploiting the third world. Well, the 3rd world student has become the teacher; they know when they are getting screwed, and the U.S. is getting what it deserves.

They have burned their bridges by claiming for years there is no talent in USA - so they could off-shore / H1B. All the while they were pushing older talented workers out the door, and refusing to hire outside of Michigan, or qualified USA workers.
Well now that the chickens have come home to roost they want USA workers to make chips and other parts for them, and want mining operations to restart in USA. Good Luck with that. They continue to offshore white collar work and blue collar work. They speaketh out both sides of their mouth.

Agree with previous poster. Now the OEMs expect us the taxpayers to support a bill for something they should have considered when they decided to go source over seas. Sorry I am tired of this BS. Outsource the senior leadership of these companies.

So how do they suppose this EV and AV stuff gets done, as the automotive OEMs and suppliers are about to slice their workforce in half?

Everyone and their brother knows there's no talent left that can be hired. In fact, most people probably know that there's a large deficit of people now. When the John Galt mandate comes from these automotive companies... good luck. Chip shortages will be the least of their problems.
