Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

What is missing for TD to innovate?

Here's what's missing here:

  • good leadership
  • talented employees
  • employees with skills

I’m afraid we don’t have the basics for this to be an innovative company, and without innovation there is no growth. I don't think anyone hopes that TD can innovate anymore?

If Teradata could innovate it would have done so. Reality is innovation requires a lot starting with vision (here is CTO/CEO role) followed by skills and talent. TD has "talent" in db admin sql world. It migrated the core DB codebase to version control only few years ago which tells it all about the level. Only certain type of ppl stay at TD, those that are lazy and do NOTHING - chop the dead wood SM, like it's Christmas

There's plenty of innovation at the individual and small team level. Problem is leadership doesn't encourage or reward innovation so most ideas go nowhere. The few innovations that break through and gain traction immediately have a bunch of useless executives and their cronies get involved and bungle things up (e.g. NOS). Inept leadership really is the root of all problems at TD.

LOL. How does Marketing negatively impact innovation? This must be HA trying to deflect attention away from her pathetic innovation record. Agree Marketing is weak but that’s the least of our problem.

Marketing is a huge roadblock to our success. We need to gut that organization and start over.

I think we can still innovate IF we have employees with skills and talent. But for that we need to pay as well as our competitors.

We need to get rid of so many of the so-called SVPs who are basically friends of CxOs as well as McK. Imagine all the savings we get from not paying for these guys! Then the savings can be used to hire and retain employees at the industry pay rate. We are not offering copetitive pay to be able to hire people who can build competitive products.
