Macy's will raise its minimum wage to 15/hr by next May. Seems like good news, but it could always come with more responsibility.

Macy’s expected people to rush in and apply when they did the press release a few weeks back. It made national news and local news made the comment “interesting Macy’s will have new employees making more than current employees” “let’s so how that works”
This backfired on Macy’s nobody came to their party they still have countless open positions and in addition they ticked off their long term loyal employees. Good job all you knuckleheads at the top in New York.
With the continuing rising inflation you need at least $18 an hour minimum.
The last poster may be right. A lot of retailers only give full time hours to management. If they have more part time workers, then their payroll expense and other expenses like health insurance will be lower.
Eventually all those full timers working at Macy's your hours will be cut or being offer a severance package before May 2022.
I have worked for the company for 29 years and now the new hires will be making almost the same as me. They don't care about the employees that were there in the pandemic and put their life on the line while everyone else stayed home collecting unemployment that's how we get paid. We should also get a raise for sticking with them for so long making us fell it was worth it .
I'm guessing that Macy's is desperate on hiring young people to work at there company. Once the news gets out next year that Macy's is paying $15 per hour, everyone will try to apply at Macy's. Long time employees and new employees will be pay the same pay rate. Times are changing folks, this is the new way of life at Macy's. The company wants to see younger faces working at there workplace.
Macy’s may become like other retailers that pay at least $15/hr. but you are usually part-time or a variable hourly employee. Managers are full-time and qualify for more and better benefits like health insurance.
$15 is becoming the standard minimum in Many of macys key markets, NYC, LA, NJ, SF, MIA. They couldn’t get any seasonal without it and there would have been an uprising if they paid seasonal more than full time.
For those FT/PT already close to $15, fight hard for your raise. Macys is desperate and needs people, and they are no longer as desirable a place to work that they used to be.
You, as labor, have the upper hand in any negotiation for the first time in your life. Ask for the world. Take advantage now, they need you more than you need them.
You can walk into any store of the mall, and get a job right now if you want to stay in retail, so don’t let them keep you at a really low rate.
$15 barely gets you above poverty level so fight for what you deserve.
Jeff and the other chiefs are making a ton this year in salary, bonus and their stock skyrocketed in the last year, so Macys has more than enough money to spread to the “masses” who actually keep the business moving.
Well that definitely means more managers and executive level jobs will be cut next year. They will get rid of a lot of the high paying positions.
In California the minimum wage goes up to $15 an hour January 1, 2022. It's currently $14 an hour.
well base on a budget i see this as firing older sales managers and ops/vs is already going . so this is just spreading the money around by getting rid of the old .
if your a sales manager who been with this dump for a min you will most likely be gone in Feb. next year.. this is your last maps.. go start learning George Michaels last xmas song. last year you have blood ,sweat and tears this year to save you from tears they fire yo bu-t and gave it to someone not special. also captians will be cut in half and full time will all be fired this xmas and gone by feb. get ready for the "sets up " by AP ..
If this is true, no more full time employees working at Macy's. Eventually the changes will happen after inventory.
That's true look what happen to Target. They only have part timers working.
It will be good to get $15/hr. but then they could make up for that increase by cutting the payroll expense and have more part-time workers that will not have to offer benefits to like health insurance.
Don’t hold your breath. After 22 years doing almost everything in the store I made $11.05 an hr.. glad I am gone. Almost all business in NJ are starting at $15. There’s allot better other jobs to pick from.
This is good news to all hourlies... The last time this happened, everyone got a bump in pay - The new hires as well as the veterans. True... The caveat may be more responsibilities but it is it is what is... All companies are doing the same; doing more with less. Right now you can jump ship to another company for lesser responsibilities, but in no time will there be more work added later. The bad news is for the salaried workers. Nothing for them. Take this from a long time red badge here :(
So what happens to our 20 year employees making $15 now? The 20-year-old kid walks in the door with no experience and will be making the same $15 an hour ? This stinks. And you can bet there will be fewer jobs to hire and an increased level of expectations on anyone coming in at this new rate.
