I am unfortunately not one of those who would like to be on the layoff list and I hope I will not be be the target. I prefer to go on my own at the moment that suits me best. I wonder if anyone knows who the target groups will be this time?

it's ALWAYS about reducing costs - operational costs. So you should be highly concerned if...
- Over 40 (because you are likely making more than your younger peers)
- Tenure - have you been there over 5-6 years - you probably got raises - again making more than your colleagues
- Can your role be realistically hired at a cheaper salary? Can you role be eliminated temporarily and the work merged with another peer or group (for now) Again if you are older and been here longer chances are Yes.
- Companies who downsize frequently often keep hiring for the exact roles eliminated - the difference is MONEY. so again it's about lower operational costs - it's cold and unfair - but that is the corporate world.
- True Story example, - there are two individuals One has been an analyst for 10 years and holds far more knowledge and skill and another who's only been in a role a year - who will likely be asked to leave? - the one with 10 years - because they are likely making more.
The only exception to these... Do you have a champion at the very top - A VP or Director level- who will fight for you and protect you even if you meet these above?
OR you perform a role that literally no one else in the company has? - So only you are doing that specific skillset and responsibilities - then maybe (but I've seen exceptions here too).
No one knows it.
