Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Former colleagues, where are you?

I haven't visited this forum in a very long time. The store where I worked was closed a long time ago and honestly, it was a horrible period for me. I thought nothing would ever be right again, but it all ended well. I didn’t leave retail, I got a job in grocery store and for now I am satisfied. I would love to hear that everyone who used to be here is now in much better companies.

I was an ASM in A Michigan Sears and we closed in October 2019. I loved my job and made decent money and would still be working there if they were open! Now I am a manager at a local grocery store. Not as good of pay but it’s ok, people are nice!

We made the Loss Prevention cuts in order to narrow it down to our strongest agents. We then adopted our current motto "The few, the proud, LP."

Was in LP for a few years but got cut in one of the big layoffs. Just taking advantage of the government freebies now while bartending for cash.

I was a Store Manager and loved the teams I worked with. As bad as things got they hung in and gave their all. I ran one of the largest stores in the company.

My DM was fired in July 2018 and that day I
made the decision that I would leave Sears. I gave my notice three months later in October 2018 as I had found another job. My DM said “why are you leaving, you run a great store”. And I told him the truth.

I have never worked for Kmart or Sears, but I am certainly part of the family! I go around to closing stores and purchase fixtures, marketing materials, signs, and whatever else to help keep the Sears and Kmart memories alive! I share photos of my collectibles to one of several Facebook groups that I manage!

I was an ASM for 9 years. I went back to school and I’m now a paralegal for a law firm making 3X what I made at Sears, along with a matching 401k and excellent health insurance. I don’t miss the people or the job. I hated every minute I worked in retail, my store closing was a blessing.

Auto center manager here, I now work for a tire company. Better hours, benefits and easier work. Still miss Sears sometimes though

Honestly, I think the same could be said for everyone that has moved on from Sears and Kmart, we’re all better off. We were hopeful, loyal people who wanted to see them succeed. Their loss was our new employers gain (and ours too).

I worked in and later ran an auto center. Do the same now for a different company. Money is better but the benefits alone were a big raise. The company actively seeks employees instead of running skeleton crew all the time with an outdated overly complex 6-8 week hiring process. So, same with better pay, more coworkers and a more structured schedule

My store closed in November of 2019. I have made more money in the last 3 years than I did in the 15 I worked for Sears and have set hours! I do miss the members and staff from store but will be able to retire instead of working till I die because we never got cost of leaving raise.

I left Loss Prevention to work for the FBI. It was a paycut and I'm still not sure if it was the right decision.

I was an appliance tech at Sears for nearly 29 years. I quit and went to work for a government contractor. Still repairing appliances on military bases and the work environment is 100% better. I have set hours, get off at the same time every day, and I am making more money.
