Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

I don't like the pilot program.

That is, I'm afraid of what it will all look like. From everything I've heard from people whose store is already in the pilot program, it seems to me that there are more cons than pros.
But who cares what employees think? Macy’s doesn’t care about employees or their opinions anyway. Perhaps in this case it should?

So central checkout isn't for you? So you don't shop at Kohl's, Target, Home Depot, Lowes or Meijer? Those are all central check out, just located at the front store. Most stores are already heading towards self check too. Soooo it look like online shopping and delivery is truly your only choice.

In addition if you have shopped our stores then understand that staffing the 100 plus terminals we had years ago simply isn't possible or needed anymore. If you would like to stand in front of a terminal all day please apply and you can call dibbs on whatever area you want.

Customers need to adapt to all these changes that Macy's are doing, they have to wait in line to pay there items, make a return or exchange, place a order, and make a payment. Adding a checkout station area is good idea but it needs time and patience, so customers and employees get adjusted to the new Macy's culture. My guess is that the stores will no longer have sales associates helping customers, just tell the customers to go to the cashier at the checkout station area.

When will these changes be at other Macy’s stores? A central checkout area would be good to have now.

Our store is already rolling out a register consolidation project to combine more clusters of registers together with bigger bays, one per floor. The project started on Wednesday November 3rd and it will be finish on Thursday November 4th, most of the registers at the sales floor are being remove expect for commission department and At Your Service. Only four registers are added at the central checkout area or station per floor. Also our store is part of the pilot program that started this year. Now customers and employees needs to get use to this new environment.

If you have Macys stock in your 401k right now, you got lucky this past year, but that is very risky to have 401k directed to one individual stock. The last 5 years would have been miserable for your 401k if it’s in Macys stock. Your 401k shouldn’t be tied in stock with the same place as your employer. Diversify—you are taking on way too much risk for your retirement funds

It's all about business, not feelings. Tanking? Macy's was tanking at $6.95 per share last year, it's currently over $30, that's not an indication of tanking. Tenured employees with 401K should be happy.

Maybe the pilot program has something good for customer service. Customers are always walking around looking for a place to checkout, etc. because everyday we don’t have enough workers. A findable central checkout area would be good for customer service.
