Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Sink or swim

I believe that the feeling that all new hires have is - sink or swim. My friend's daughter got a job in the store where I work and I, despite my best intentions, can't help her much. How can she know how to do work if no one shows her?

It’s awful how this company treats both old and new hires.

The Sears comment is accurate. Where I disagree is that I think Marvin knows about what is happening in the field and I don't think he cares. As long as numbers are good, he will overlook everything, including diversity issues. SAD BUT TRUE

The above comment about where our senior leadership came from is 100% spot on!

The SEARS Old WM Club does not understand efficiency and they absolutely RUINED their company so why wouldn't we expect the same out of them for Lowe's? Most of them are so freaking old, they all have a 2 to 3 year plan and openly brag about it.

Not only are they not efficient, they are pigs through and through. Screaming at store managers while on the floor, sexist comments, and the list goes on and on. I cannot believe Marvin condones this behavior, but my guess is the good old boy club is protecting him from learning. If he only knew how they truly feel about DE&I efforts...or maybe he does and he feels the same?? They need to purge the SEARS crew and fast.

They are setting up stores to fail so they can close the least profitable stores. The supply chain is so lopsided and it’s not going to change. Price increases in every sector of product. So close stores that do not generate great revenue and sales gives the reason why it’s closing and combining the next closest store.

The company would rather create totally useless regional/area/corporate positions than invest in the stores. In the minds of corporate, as you as a store employee don’t need any real training—just execute the programs that they put in front of you, like AP4ME, IRP, push Lowe’s credit, etc. and be constantly willing to do more with less.

It's the same everywhere. Read posts from other companies.

There is no swim - only sink. Our Company is now run by people in Mooresville who have a track record of destroying other retailers (Sears, JC Penny) via cost cutting with zero support for Customers and Front Line Employees. Our Leaders' objective is to increase the Company stock price short term while maximizing their multi-million dollar bonuses at the expense of Lowes Front Line Employees and Lowes Customers. It is no more complicated than that. The fact that they lie and pretend to care makes it worse, but it really is a simple thing - SINK, or get out.

Tell her to get her ASM or Dept Manager to give her help....That is what they are suppose to do. If that doesn't work go to the Store Manager, If that doesn't work either find another job because Lowe's is not what it used to be. That is why I got out after 9 years.
