HR intervention for racist treatment

Have any of you faced harrasment on racial basis regularly? Is there any hope to get help on this front?

I am a BTC employee and my Houston contacts sometimes mistreat me and always pass the blame to me for their mistakes. I may not be flawless but I am certain that some individuals at EM are racist to the core.

@1zpj That’s illegal. Contact the Department of Labor and retain an attorney if you plan to take legal action.

I went to HR with sound proof of my mistreatment as a woman and they got rid of ME immediately.

@1aix You’re in a lonely place. One the one hand, you’ll be on the receiving end of anti-Asian racism in all forms from white employees, and on the other you’ll get little support from other POCs because Asians are (unfairly) perceived as having “class privilege”.

For Asian women it’s even worse, because in addition to the racism they’ve been sexualized (especially by white men) to point of absurdity.

Good luck with your struggles.

Asian American here - the racist treatment I get is systemic, not incidental, so no I don’t get any support or intervention.

@OP There are plenty of Indians (i.e. self-identified Hindus) who treat everyone who isn’t a member of their “caste” like garbage in U.S. companies, including XOM. When called on it (or even better, when they’re sued because of it), they run and hide behind religious protections and/or claim ignorance.

Nobody asked you to take U.S. jobs, and U.S. jobs are sent to places like Bangalore, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, et al, precisely because they can treat employees there like garbage and get away with it.

I've never been racist. The App just happens to break every time you work on it.

HR is working on Exxon's behalf, not yours. If you don't like how you've been treated, then you should leave.

Imagine working in a company where people are nice to each other regardless of race and gender.

Imagine working in a company where people are ranked and promoted based on their own performance and achievements, and not based on some minimum quota for race/gender, nor on favoritism and cronyism.

Well we can continue to imagine, since we aren't working in such a company.

I too suffer from the annual, HR sanctioned racially discriminating ranking process.

I’m a white male and I’m racially discriminated against once a year during the ranking process.

I wish I knew who you are, we could have a great, lengthy talk about a lot of the inappropriate BS!

You won’t know till you try. I was treated same way even though I am in US but a minority. It’s got nothing to do with BTC - it’s universal

I have some experience with this. Number one remember HR works for exxon not you they want the best for the company. I was subject to lots of inappropriate talk about minorities, g-ys and women. I told my co workers that I was offended and I did not want to here their racist talk. One of the boys did not feel that he had to stop talk like that around me. He said that he had freedom of speech and he could say anything he wanted. When these boys attacked my culture I went to HR. Everyone I worked with was white and when HR interviewed them the denied they said anything offensive. Even two minority women that heard the offense denied the acts. They said they did not want any trouble. In the end HR took the side of the offenders and said without solid proof there was nothing that could be done. Actual proof would consist of emails, voice mails. HR was candid and told me off the record that they believed me because of the past actions and racial make up of the site. I was told in the end we all have to work together and the managers had to as well. I did get better for me my supervisor was transferred because he was scared of my accusations and several of the bad apples left my group. Unless you have solid proof don't go to HR because they won't help. One thing that might help is to turn your voice recorder on you cell phone and let them know. Once I did this everyone left me alone.
