Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The last Michigan Kmart is all over the media

So many Sears and Kmart stores have closed in the past five years with barely any mention - usually just a list here and there and that's it. Now that the last Kmart in Michigan is closing, everybody is writing about it. As if that store matters most than all the others combined. This shouldn't annoy me as much as it does but I can't help it.

The closing of a dead store is only important to the few remaining customers. But the closing of the last one makes for a good nostalgia moment. Look up "last Sears" or last Kmart" and you can find a lot of articles. When the final Kmart/Sears stores close, it could even make national news.

The closings of Kmart in Manhattan, Sears in Brooklyn, and Sears in Los Angeles (Boyle Heights) got lots of media attention too. Someone else already mentioned the last Sears in Illinois (Woodfield Mall) closing.

No sh1t, Sherlock. Um, the company started there. Not sure why you are surprised that it matters more, there. Same reaction in IL when last full line Sears was announced. In other news, every Day ends in the letter "y". DUH!
