The Federal Aviation Administration plans to investigate fresh concerns that
Boeing employees tapped to conduct safety work on behalf of the government
face pressure to serve the company's interests rather than those of the public.
In a letter to Boeing released Tuesday (08/24/2021),
The FAA summarized a recent investigation into the company's
Organization Designation Authorization Unit,
Saying some employees described conflicts of interest, pressure from Boeing
staff members and struggles to be transparent with the government.

If you complain about management or management decisions at Boeing you are definitely going to be laid off at the first or second round of any layoffs. That’s the reason even when employees know things are not right are hesitant to say anything.

You have a culture were management lays off anyone who vocally disagrees with their decisions.

I’m sure there were lots of people who thought only having one air data probe for the MCAS system was a bad idea. But no one would dare say anything for fear of being laid off. The more experienced people who would be the most likely to identify issues and speak up are the most likely to be laid off in Boeing’s culture. So everyone is afraid to speak up.

"Boeing's company culture appears to hamper members of the ODA unit
from communicating openly with the FAA," according to the August 19 letter
the agency sent to Boeing, which was obtained by AFP on Wednesday.

In an investigation into the ability to openly express concerns without fear of
repercussions, the FAA said it found "35 percent of people voicing concerns and
sharing experiences that indicate the environment Does Not support the
Independence of the ODA unit."

Some of the in-house inspectors cited interference with their work and
said the structure created a conflict of interest, pointing to incidents of
"undue pressure," and Boeing managers "shopping" for a cooperative
inspector, according to the documents.
