Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

#WeAreFamily

No. No we aren’t. We are co-workers. Enough with this “our most valuable asset is our employees” and “we are family” kumbaya “Imagine” nonsense.

We are co-workers trying to deliver a profitable product so that we can afford to raise our REAL families. Nothing more. This whole DIB rollout is premised by complete fiction and is ripe with the subtle bigotry of low expectations and postmodern woke stupidity. I sure wish our company would focus on being a successful company again, instead of appealing to the woke mob. Even as a millennial, it’s immensely unnerving and unappealing in a professional setting.

It is interesting that with some companies after the people retire or quit they actually stay in touch with one another. In some sense this is like a professional family.

Trust me, I wouldn't want you to be my sister. I get better treatment from my co-workers.
In that sense, I do like what Oxy is doing for the employees affected by the Hurricanes, now and in the past. But that is the right thing to do, whether you are family or co-workers. The moment we leave Oxy we are not family anymore. You can't technically quit family.

OXY is a WOKE mess. They failed when they decided to make the poorly WOKE decision of overpaying for that WOKE company APC. These WOKE leaders will continue to overpay and underperform, ‘cuz that is what WOKE failures do.

The last poster needs counseling. Counseling can work wonders.

Thanks OP for the post.
I too am sick and tired of this family BS.
It implies that family is always a good thing.
Tell that to the thousands of domestic abuse victims, battered wives and se-----y assaulted children.
Family should be something private and has no relevance in the work place. We are professionals, acquaintances, and maybe some become friends. All these are choices, family is not.

We have a CEO that has no children of her own, and many people within our company that don’t have families. Thus, oxy is their family, but for the rest of us who chose a life outside of work... well we understand oxy is not family, it’s work. Work to live, don’t live to work.

So why is VH still in her position? This is the common question I get from friends and relatives. I just don’t know what to say because it does not make sense how a CEO can sc--w something up at this magnitude and still have a job.

Oxy does not equal family, and never has or will. Oxy equals incompetent incestuous management. VH does not care about your family miner or anyone elses. SHe cares about herself and always has. She ruined an already cr---y company, and those who choose to invest in it, without their approval. She is a really stupid dictator, and she can use all the Stain Remover she can, but will never remove the stain she has on her and the one she put on this company, its employees, and investors.

She is probably looking forward to retirement but feels an obligation to the employees until this difficult time in through.

Well said OP. What ever happened to focusing on the return to shareholders? Oxy stock was over $80 about 3 years ago. Oxy has clearly been ruined by overpaying for APC - thanks to the ego of Vicki. Running a corporation is not SEC football - it’s time for Vicki to resign and go paddle her kayak full time!!

This “I am not part of an Oxy family” attitude will only get more widespread as work from homes continues. But good luck having a happy successful career without doing at least some bonding to the organization.

Unfortunately the words from the millennial in the post has so much anger. It is true for most the Oxy family does not exist and never did and probably never will. But many of the experienced Oxy employees think of themselves as part of a family because they have lived through a lot of emotional experiences and played and worked hard together. In particular this is true of the expats and international business development teams who spent significant time away from the US and helped make Oxy a huge success on the world stage.

100% agree. I like my co-workers and show them respect as they do me. When I go home at the end of the day it is to my family. Simple as that.
