I have been sitting back and watching the posts lately about this and that - the “courses” seems to be an issue that needs to be addressed by this company as it is popping up fairly often.
The facts are these: The vast majority of employees in this company are not from the USA. The two biggest ethnic blocks in this company are Indian and Israeli. People whose social and religious beliefs probably differ wildly from the average American. People whose social views of many things is a little different from the average American (HR at least). The vast majority, myself included, do not use English as their first language.
I am telling you - people, not just me, are mightily sick of being presumed upon. The company presuming that American centric beliefs are the same as my beliefs, as our beliefs, on a whole plethora of social and religious topics.
The company is presuming that what they deem acceptable is in any way acceptable to us. The attitude is reflected in the use of an off the shelf set of “courses” and I use the term loosely, to lecture at us about how we are unconsciously biassed, non-inclusive, not diverse enough, blah blah blah.
How could a company the size of Synamedia not actually take a gauge of the workforce feeling and at least try and get courses that are customised to meet different social norms across the company?
How can a company like Synamedia lack the “self awareness” to actually reflect the make up and beliefs of the majority of the workforce and instead impose a type of cultural imperialism upon us? How would the US employees feel if they suddenly were told how to think and believe and behave or “you’re not getting your bonus” even if it diverged from what they actually believe? or even to be forced out of the company? It is wrong - plain wrong.
It is about time this was called out and I hope it causes some internal reflection and change. True inclusion and diversity is what this company was built upon over the last 30 years or so - a diverse workforce across the nations of Mother Earth each individual having mutual respect for the other and just getting on with making sure people are entertained and informed instead of this useless and divisive claptrap.
