Thread regarding ION Geophysical Corp. layoffs

How long did it take you to find a new job?

I’m getting a little desperate because I haven’t been able to get out of here for months. I think this company knows that and uses it a lot.
They set expectations that are unrealistic to meet, put extra pressure and literally squeeze people. I'm sick of this company. I try to expand my skillset as much as I can. I hope to find something soon.

I quit the job before the ship sank. And here is something I'd like to share:

Sadly, knowing how to run those processing or imaging "jobs" gives you zero chance to land on any real jobs outside of the industry. It was so disheartening to find out that my experience at ION gave me absolutely no leverage when looking for a different career path that I stopped even mentioning ION and instead, focusing on my other strengths during my interviews. Found a much better job.
A piece of advice to anyone who has lost jobs recently or is looking around. Better start to pick up something else that is more transferrable ASAP and do not expect that whatever you achieved in the past at this company has much value unless you were a programmer or on the IT side.

Network, network and network. There are lots of opportunities right now and more will be coming in Q4, but the very good opportunities are not advertised. Network with other people in the industry as much as possible to find out where the jobs are. Also, be flexible to travel. Good luck.

Got laid off in early 2020 (a Godsend actually). After a year of not finding a job (Covid didn't help), I managed to sn---h one up at a start up Environmental Saas company (I had transferable Technical Skills). Not as well paying but can actually see a future for the company. We are crazy busy...

Very few of the people I know who have been laid off from this industry since 2015 have gotten jobs - I’d hope by now you’ve realized you need to switch industries and fast!
