Expectations on WFH?

I think many people want to work from home after the VH email, but are worried on a functional level ie how it will be perceived by their group (I.e supply chain, or land senior management). I guess my question is, are there different expectations on a functional level. what are y’all’s thoughts?

The communication was explicit and totally unambiguous. Good luck using "don't have a good place to work from home" as a reason to work in the office. What were you doing from March 2020 through May 2021?

I read it to be you can work in the office if you are vaccinated/testing and get VP approval. plus follow all the safety protocols. Some people don't have a good place at home to work. At least we have options.

@4gse- I'm guessing you don't work here. If you did, you'd know what happened today. I'm not even going to clear it up for you and just leave you in the dark where you belong.

I'll never understand why trolls post of this site pretending like they have some connection to this company. They try to piece together what's going on from other posts, but inevitably miss the mark and expose themselves... like this guy.

So what if you don’t get approved to be in the office? Are you out of the organization? Some people would really be offended by not being allowed into the office. This is like saying that you are not important enough to be in the office.
This approach is going in the opposite direction of how best to proceed. Instead the company must require the vaccination for all who can medically get it. If you don’t get it then you are terminated. Same thing goes for the booster when you are eligible for that. These anti vaxers are impacting our physical health, our mental health, and most importantly our economic welfare. Why can’t corporate boards wake up to this.

Well done HR! The executives now have to approve people in the office. Takes the power away from these id--t micromanagers to try to keep their people in the office for no apparent reason but appearances.

I read it to say start immediately WFH, and include your supervisor on your situation. If you are scared of the virus and infecting older people and children then you should get with your supervisor and let them know that. If they hold it against you then so be it. The bigger picture is your protecting your family. You need to take ownership of your own personal needs and go with that. I think Oxy has done a great job at allowing us to protect ourselves, and you might just have to deal with any fall out later. I really would find it hard any manager would push back on you needing to WFH if you tell them your reason. Until the policy goes into place I am working from home.

Some managers are interpreting it based on their own beliefs that most should be in the office. Very disappointing that leadership isn’t encouraging those managers to let people stay home. So glad my department is staying open minded and trusting us to get our work done.

I’m a first line supervisor. Half of my floor in Greenway has been at home the whole time, and guidance from our management was full flexibility until Sept 7. Now, late october is the new september 7.

Im surprised to see so many people say they are being forced to come in. A lot of my colleagues haven't showed up at all since lat year and it’s ok. We are not having in-person meetings anyways.

I am personally cutting back to 1 day a week.

Unfortunately I was told that if I was vaccinated I was encouraged to come in. The WFH flexibility is just on paper.

What retaliation. If you are a team player you are OK. If you say to the company sc--w you I will do what I want you are eventually out. This is the way all business, educational departments, or any group of human being acts. Yes, even friends will retaliate if you mistreat them frequently. Parents don’t generally do this because they love you. Are you so immature that you want world to be like your mommy and Daddy. Maybe your only 23 so that might be where you’re at emotionally. Just grow up.

I feel sad reading these posts because I believe these stories here are true based on what I experienced. My floor has confirmed cases but we are still pressured to work in the office. Do you really think this will increase our productivity?

I'm in my late 30s and I have to take care of both my elderly parents with chronic diseases. While we are usually extremely careful (curbside pickups, avoiding visits), I am incredibly pressured to be okay with in office meetings where some remove their masks, especially when managers are the ones doing it. And what WFH email from the CEO? That was all up to interpretations, nothing is clear cut except hospital beds are waning once again.

If you're in the office, please remember this isn't about your freedom anymore but about your humanity. A lot of us have to take care of elderly parents or have family members with chronic diseases who are high risk of death. Please wear your mask, keep a safe distance, and encourage others to do the same. From the bottom of my heart I beg you.

I am 33 and I think we all need to do our part to push back against the anti wfh managers. They can’t fire us all! This is the culture I want going forward where wfh is the norm and in the office is the exception.

You are spot on when fearing retaliation for going back to WFH...OXY definitely supports, and does nothing to stop, retaliation on employees by supervisors.

Timeline wasn't adjusted because they're feeling altruistic. It was adjusted because the probability of virus transmission has increased in the workplace.

Do what's best for your health and safety, not what others say on this website. These people certainly won't be visiting you or a loved one in the ICU or cemetary.

You are making the right choice unless you have a medical, elder care, or child care issue at home. Working from home now would exclude you from the many project based conversations that happen at the office. The train would leave the station without you on it.

I want to go back to work from home. But based on conversations with peers, I would be the only one doing so. We’re all mostly back in and it appears no one is going back home. I fear retaliation and being left out should I choose to go back to wfh. Due to peer pressure, I have no choice but to continue to show up with a smile despite being extremely uncomfortable doing so and managing sky high anxiety levels. Not to mention wasting time and money on a commute. Covid sucks.
