Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

New Technical Leadership Please!

HA and SB are not getting it done. We have presented product issues to HA for months and she acted “shocked” to hear it last week? What is she doing? The only new innovation started outside her group. SB is a part-time CTO? SM needs to wake up or we are dead.

@kjfl+1cifAKl4 I agree that competence is what ultimately matters. May I also point out that political affiliation, in a special context which is time bound and geography bound, _may_ actually correlate with competence or predict success, even if for no other reason than swimming with the current rather than against it tends to render one lazy and complacent after a while. This is a worrying thought in the age of left leaning en masse of the IT in general. And boy - am I hopeful to be proven wrong.

TD's senior leadership is incompetent, and praise does tend to go to yes-men and cheerleaders (Example: there was a Yammer thread that lasted for THREE WEEKS, praising a secretary for bringing in a candy basket for "critical staff", while NEVER naming the actual CRITICAL STAFF who have been risking their lives and family's lives to keep TD running).

The ELT has one product, which they cannot turn into a success. Most of them have NEVER worked in IT, and from the PMs on down-- know nothing about the systems, current challenges, or what is involved in any of the many ask's that come down from them. The responsibility of "success" or "failure" is pushed all the way downstream onto the implementers (engineers), who are tasked with the job of making 2 + 2 = 5.

I don't have a lot of confidence about the long-term future of this company. The IBM outsource does not help with these projections.

That said, the folks who are allergic to "woke culture"-- BETTER GET USED TO IT. Most global employers are moving leftward, and that is a trend that is likely to continue indefinitely as a result of 1/6/21.

Not the place for a political discussion-- but I've worked under competent and incompetent senior leadership, both "woke" and non-woke. Political leanings, do not determine success. Having COMPLETENT LEADERSHIP, regardless of political affiliation, is what determines if your company sinks or swims.

What’s up with HA’s political t-shirts? I don’t need an overpaid executive that lives in an exclusive gated community instructing me on social and racial justice issues. She has enough to worry about trying to keep Vantage from crashing. She should focus on her day job and stop dividing our employees.

We know HA does not read this site since she is still eating on camera. Can IT write a program to automatically shut off her video when she eats? Maybe disable it entirely since she also makes socially awkward expressions too.

Can someone at least ask HA to turn off her video when she’s eating? Creepy watching her eat. That way we don’t have to see her politically motivated t-shirts either.

Marketing is not the issue. Marketing is ruling the roost because there are no new products. Duh. How can you have an exciting new product launch without a new product? They renamed the Teradata Database Vantage to at least fool a few people into thinking we had something new.

The original entrepreneurs who founded Teradata would be appalled at the list of clowns in management positions (not worth of being called a "leadership team"). The spirit of "get on with it" from Neches & Shemer (et al) is completely missing. SB has been a joke for a long time. HA is cluelessly over her head. Then there is the bozos in Marketing (ME and CT). Atop this mess is a Board who collects their stock, nods in a serious manner at yet another strategy, and allows incompetents to ruin a once-great company. Oh, and what about having "any" partners? Nope, Teradata doesn't want partners and hasn't had a serious partner group since the early days (when partners were valued). The days for Teradata are numbered.

Marketing is ruling the roost here -- it's not about innovation, not for the last 3 or so years, it's about selling what we already have and making it sound new with fancy content. I'm part of the old guard and it's been a long time since we had a huge product launch in October like we used to. Those were exciting times.
