Anyone been able to de-code the ADEA document provided in the VSSP offers?
Example - why is there a category for “SW Engineer - SG6 - VSSP - Eligible” and then another category of “IT Software Engineer - SG6 - VSSP - Eligible” ?
Ages and counts are different.

A1. My experience is that there seems to be a variety standard job titles that are just a common name for general use, but all have the same specific classification that is used for our "permanent record" that is generally hidden from everyone outside of HR.
A2. I don't have enough data points to say that there's clear age discrimination going on. It could be that the whole reason this VSSP has such a low bar of eligibility is to make it seem that it's just general house cleaning before targeting teams with "excess resources" and picking the high priced people.
A3. It'd be interesting to see as a point of curiosity, but I'll only care if the diversity isn't balanced when the involuntaries go through.
A4. That makes financial sense, but six months pay + health isn't any better than if just retiring. I'm pretty sure you can't take both pieces of that pie.... Ford pays good money for attorneys and finance people to ensure freebies like that don't happen.
A5. Pretty much. Playing word games just enough to keep them out of court cases that are definitely not winnable. I think this might go beyond just clearing out old expensive individuals and be about culling out enough people in traditionally expensive areas to the point where the salary that can be expected in those goes down significantly. EG if there are lot of SG7 & 8's, knock that down to SG6 & 7's (or lower).
Funny how your examples are both for software engineers, and still only SG6 which would be a real bargain for Ford if they were even only of average competence. Interesting to keep in mind that there are many reports that the IT/Software market is HOT due to the continued WFH right now and projected new high levels of it for the future.
Also it seem that these would be the best internal employees aligned with the stated goals of "Ford+", yet still extended an "invite to GTFO"? My SWAG is that upper management feels that that after they clean house of expensive resources (via the involuntaries that will surely follow the VSSP) that they'll be able to find replacements for much lower wages due too general willingness to work remotely. This may include those working from dirt cheap places of America, or I think is just as likely: "Offshoring 2.1" Take note of how many more IT people we interact with are out of a certain large country in Asia over the last two years.
Don’t know all the logic behind the job classifications. I have lost count on how many times my title and job classification has changed. Your exact classification will show up in HR and on your PR. You boss can also provide it.
HR just summarizes by whatever the existing job classifications there are. Note that the job classifications were adjusted at BCG suggestion before the 2019 SRD.
It is all about attempting to protect Ford’s behind against legal action.
Many have felt that the primary targets are 50+ white men. Yes those with high income and a pension had a target painted on their back. But the good ole boys club take every opportunity to protect their own and discriminate. No matter what the top leadership spouts the middle management does their own thing.
My thoughts when looking at the tables:
- Does anyone really know their job classification? Where do you find it in HR Online?
- Notice who is eligible vs not. Check out the associated ages. In my area, it I clear there are more older than younger employees eligible. In fact, the younger ones tend to be protected.
- Would love to see diversity factored in. Guessing more whites are eligible and BIPOCs are not.
- Have heard that in some areas with heavy retirement eligible populations, the retirees are not eligible for the package. Thus preventing them from getting the financial "kicker" as a part of the retirement process.
- The table basically sets the duck so they can walk you out (if you are in the eligible area) by claiming they no longer need your position, yet having a very similarly worded job doing the same thing. Hence the Software Engineer vs IT Software Engineer- likely the same jobs, but one will be let go and the other (cheaper, younger labor) will stay.
