Mask Policy and Workplace Update

Hi everyone,

Since the start of the pandemic, I’ve been proud of our agility and ability to flex. At a moment’s notice, we’re able to adjust our plans to ensure the health and safety of our colleagues and customers, while also keeping our business moving forward. Today, I know that the COVID-19 Delta variant is top of mind for many of us. We’re keeping a close eye on these developments and, based on what we know today, are updating our policies and plans.

First, effective tomorrow, there will be a mask mandate for all colleagues that are currently in high risk (orange) and substantial risk (red) level states as defined by the CDC. These categories have been aligned with our previously introduced state and county category matrix – which means all locations noted as “category three” require face masks for colleagues (click on Mask Mandate Guideline tab). This new mandate applies to all colleagues, whether you are in the office full-time, on the sales floor, in a distribution center or hoteling.

For our customers, our current policy remains unchanged. Unless required by jurisdictional mandate, customer face masks are recommended.

For our corporate colleagues, I know our welcome back to the office is also top-of-mind. We feel good about our plans to get our facilities ready for our hybrid workplace model. Yet with the uncertainty surrounding this new variant of the virus, we’re adapting our approach and marking the September 20 date as a “soft launch.”

A soft launch means that our offices will be fully open and ready for colleague use starting on September 20 on a volunteer basis. Colleagues can make an individual decision about their return and begin visiting the office or continue to work remote for the time being. Our intention is to create options to meet the varied needs, without losing momentum on the return to office plans. This also means that People Leaders in the coming weeks should reconsider any planned, in-person meetings and determine if colleagues are comfortable participating, and/or if a hybrid or remote meeting can be considered instead. We’ll update you on additional return to office guidance at a later date when we know more.

For all locations, we will continue our wellness check process and additional health and safety policies. We also strongly encourage any colleague who is eligible to be vaccinated to do so. More information is available on the CDC vaccination site.

I know that many of us have different levels of comfort with the constant flow of information about this virus. Jeff, the leadership team and I appreciate everyone’s willingness to pivot and do what is best for each other and the business. As always, we will remain flexible and continue to keep you updated as our plans evolve.

Danielle

To those hammering at us corporate folks...not ALL of us get to stay home. I work in photo studio, tons of freelancers & unvaccinated models who travel all the time. When i do work from home the stress is immense...calls emails and more stress than if you were in person...and thats in the comfort of your safe space home which is no longer a safe sane place. We generally dont get to ride to work in our private car..we are riding the subway. So get your shot , stay safe & keep the focus there rather than what you think you know.

Does this mean we'll get out of our regional visit in a couple of weeks? Doubtful.

To all the people complaining about the office workers doing remote work: 95% of their job involves the computer not people. Buyers don’t need to see their coworkers, ever. You all entitled to be jealous of them but it’s not surprising in any way. Im sorry Macy’s doesn’t mind putting you in danger for profit. Shows you who they really do care about and it’s not you.

Macy's should see if they can get money from the government to set up semi-permanent vaccination sites in the stores. "Shot and shop" stores! Especially those underutilized "neighborhood" Macy's. Great way to get repeat customers.

A word to the wise. Reports suggest that the Delta variant has a viral load 1000X greater than original Covid-19. That means if someone that is sick with Delta sneezes on you, 1000X more virus is shooting your way. A single mask is not going to cut it. You need to get vaccinated and you might want to go double on your N95 mask (or KN95) if you have them. (N95 under your Macy's mask if your manager forces you to dress to Macy's "mask" code. You might also find N95 inserts to go under your outer mask) Keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you at all times and use it when you take off or put on your mask. In this way you will not contaminate the protective barrier with your fingers. Keep your nose covered at all times and you can check the seal on your mask by forming a cup with your hands around the edge of the mask. If you notice a difference then your mask seal is poor. Try tying a loop in your ear straps to tighten up your mask. If your mask leaks it is not working properly. Remember, "the right choices make all the difference"!

Other companies are mandated the vaccine shot to there employees. Eventually Macy's will follow that path too, once it's approve by the FDA. Either it's going to happen this Fall or early next year. Be ready folks! 💉

Company wide if store Associates have to be in to work then I would require office employees to also be in work. Sitting at home is good and bad yeah you save money on the commute as well as wear and tear on your vehicle unless you use mass transit. But you do not have the same comraderie with your coworkers and are more disconnected other than Conference and or Teams calls. Gives you flexibility to get more done around the house but you are probably working more hours for the company at home.

What a joke. Office people need to go back to the office, mandatory. We've all been back in the stores for over a year now, working around hundreds of coworkersn and customers weekly. What a luxury gig you have going. Scared of in person meetings? Seriously? Wow. Why are you so special? Get back in the real world.
