Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Do directors or managers above them ever request more man power?

I keep seeing more of the same old thing. Managers and directors keep harassing hopelessly over loaded employees with threats that they are not complying and/or not doing their jobs completely. (what did they think would happen after all the cuts?) My question is what would happen to a director or above if one told their superior that more man power was needed? Would they themselves lose their jobs for not being yes men? Do these middle / upper level managers have no choice? What would happen if one of the upper / middle managers told the truth? It seems no matter how little they are allotted to get everything done they claim to us under them that we already have enough material, parts, employees, equip etc etc etc. If it doesnt get done then it is automatically and unquestionably the front line agreement employees fault for “not managing their time” or “failure to comply”

I am a director and have asked for more resources since the big layoffs in 2018. I wrote a detailed case with facts and multiple arguments, and was granted the additional headcount, and, may be gaining more on 2022. You have to ask, and craft a solid argument, and it can be done.

How to "psr" a railroad. Step 1 cut all the boards until movement ALMOST stops. 2. Increase train length until nothing fits in any siding. 3. Do not do any maintenance on anything. 4. Ensure every train has a work event at every terminal. 5. Cut the amount of available carmen to handle the new amount of set outs and pick ups

  1. Decrease the number of locomotive's placed on trains. 7. Place all the "unneeded" locomotive's in storage. 8. Never EVER under any circumstances take a locomotive out of storage. 9. Hire managers that have never seen a train, and take all their authority away by micro management. 10. Never EVER hold any if your subcontractors accountable. 11. Ride, harass, bully, tey employeeys. Or alternately 12. Allow tey employees to drag their feet. 13. Increase dispatcher area to the point where a prompt response is impossible. 14 and this is the most important part. Ignore dead crews sitting on trains staring at a FRED from another dead train and never, ever send out a ride to get them off the train. Just keep saying no rides are available. 15. Sit back and call the resulting chaos profit.

CMS is where the most unskilled and lazy people work. I’m not surprised this company lets that department handle manpower. Makes total sense their doing a great job! Keep up the good work guys.

Manpower limits in transportation are set by CMS. It does absolutely no good to request employees as they go by a formula and will not budge. All managers would like to have additional employees as this would help on weekends, holidays, surges, and so on.

I was wondering if or when that question would be asked. The one thing I've noticed recently is the amount of borrow-outs. There's a lot of them, especially in the northern region. I just don't think that question can be answered honestly by any manager. There's still those managers out there that are convinced they're going to save the railroad with their impeccable work ethics. Unfortunately, we all know how that's going for them. The managers or at least most of them are keeping their heads down. The managers know or should know by now that their jobs aren't as safe as they thought. Will there be more and more layoffs? I kinda doubt it at this point. The UP is hurting for employees. The management team caused this messed, and they're the ones that are reeping the rewards now. I do know that the northern region has a few new managers that aren't taking sh1t from the upper managers, and I wish them the best of luck.
