This is what we get for promoting the wrong people. We have managers who have no idea how to do their jobs and who constantly threaten us with cuts because that's the only thing they know how to do. It's honestly ridiculous. I'd give anything to get my old manager back. He was not perfect but at least he knew how long it takes to do something and didn't expect us to bend the rules of space and time to finish something faster just because he says so.

It's the Peter principle: people in a hierarchy tend to rise to their "maximum level of incompetence": employees are promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another (from wikipedia).
