Thread regarding Emerson Electric Co. layoffs

Small raises are not boosting morale

I think I will get a higher pay sooner if I go to a company that will initially give me less, but in which I will be able to progress faster than if I was to stay here and wait. Is Emerson really not able to give a bigger raise to the people who deserved it? Who will be kept here by very small raises? My opinion - no one. Especially because people are leaving not only because of payment but also because of many other things that are very bad here.

HR kept telling managers that pay was competitive because they did not have a retention issue. I wonder if Emerson still believes this. Lower pay was acceptable when the culture was conducive to opportunity, room for growth, and a sense of accomplishment while performing meaningful work. Also, when there was respect for the individual. Too many of today’s leaders have been elevated from the planner ranks that have a sense of entitlement. Diversity is just a buzz word. I worked with a former diversity employee that was willing to come back, wanted to interview for a position and was turned down - this person was a former hi-p-t in the org. I even reached-out, as well as my peers, to this person to return. So disappointed in the org.

I had multiple job offers that all had significant base salary increased over my total comp at Emerson. Then throw in the bonus on top from those offers and it made it very easy to leave. Why Emerson thinks they can keep top talent with such poor compensation is beyond me.

What is even crazier is that people will stay and complain about their pay for an entire career. If you aren't happy then go find somewhere else that will pay you what you are worth...that place is not Emerson.

I left. My last day was Friday.
I made the decision after getting a tint raise. (Last year…no raises!)
