Wrong Direction for Management: Strategy Fail or Success

VW posts record breaking profits making cars and trucks globally and Auto News reports the following for Ford, who by design is moving away from industry leading cars and trucks:

Ford Motor Co. and its partner Argo AI will soon launch an autonomous vehicle delivery service with retail giant Walmart in three U.S. cities, the companies said Wednesday.

The service, which will begin later this year in Miami, Washington and Austin, Texas, will use Ford Escape hybrid test vehicles equipped with Argo technology to deliver Walmart orders to customers. The announcement comes nearly three years after the companies launched a pilot program in Miami exploring use cases for self-driving vehicles.

A spokesman said the service will initially launch at one store in each city, where customers will be able to receive deliveries if they live within "defined service areas" that will expand over time.

"Our focus on the testing and development of self-driving technology that operates in urban areas where customer demand is high really comes to life with this collaboration," Argo AI CEO Bryan Salesky said in a statement. "Working together with Walmart and Ford across three markets, we're showing the potential for autonomous vehicle delivery services at scale."

Ford in the past has collaborated with companies such as Postmates and Domino's on autonomous vehicle delivery pilots. In July, Ford and Argo announced plans to start a self-driving ride-hailing service with Lyft Inc. in Miami and Austin by the end of the year.

The automaker is attempting to launch a self-driving vehicle business next year that will focus on commercial services.

I left during SRD and will replace my F150 with a competitor vehicle.

Pretty sure it has at least half a dozen recalls on it. I do get weekly phone calls from my local dealer to trade it in for a new 80k truck. Not going to happen.

I was listed as "do-not-rehire" when I left, and I listed Ford "do-not-purchase" before I even walked out those doors. You'd be surprised how small Ford's customer base is outside of the Michigan area.

Good luck Bill and Jim, you lost another Ford "family" member to the BCG algorythm.

So now we are doing deals with the devil? F%&k WalMart.

I don't support a company who's business plan relies on government subsidies filling in the gaps for employees to eat and have shelter.

Pay a living wage, provide health care, and give the hard working people some PTO.

The Waltons are silver spoon handed down money vultures that have been destroying small towns across this country for decades They are traitors to every hard working American that deserves a fair wage for hard work.

Well it is pretty clear the company will go 50/50 on EV vs ICE. So what is going to happen to all those people? Hourly this involves you too. Because EVs according to the labor studies will eliminate 30-40% of the people in the assembly plant. Ford has lost touch with what the customer wants. Since Ford 2000 the products and market share have gone down. For some reason other than a brief period when Allan was here we lost customer focus as to what they really want. We load gadgets and gizmos thinking that is the answer. We created more complexity and buildable combinations to the point we priced ourselves out of markets. Right now according to Wall Street 90+% of our profits come from F-Series. If you looked at those sticker prices lately you will be shocked.. despite the financing gimmicks like 72-80 months I am sorry that is plain stupid. What happens if the sales on F-Series continue to fall? Company needs to focus on products people want not some Pie in the sky Train Station. Sorry Bill but you need to go. That was your baby. Using company funds for you legacy is not going to good. You are not an Emperor. If a large hedge fund had any brains they would dump the stock.

Appears to be a planned shift away from cars and trucks for the consumer to industrial/commercial vehicles for business and industry. Is this the "white flag" for Ford where they surrender and admit that they cannot succeed financially making world class cars and trucks due to global competition. If so, R.I.P. (Rust in Peace) Ford.
