I'm in a moderate size community and had a 16 bay shop with techs who were there 10 to 40 years. After 3 years of being closed I still run into customers who recognize me and stop me to say how much they miss us. I visited the shop in Puerto Rico while on vacation and it was amazing.
Lambert had no pulse on the Automotive part of his company and missed out on spinning it off as a separate business. Even the shipping logistics wasn't an issue since many wholesalers delivered to our store once or twice daily. When we switched to bonus by margin the profits flew up because I based my price on the quality of our work and not being the wh--e of the week.
Sears could have easily went head to head with the likes of Firestone or Goodyear if it retained the right shops.

I wonder if people who use the label Boomer realize that most people of that generation aren't insulted by it because we are proud of our accomplishments.

The Sears Auto Center at Landmark Mall in Alexandria VA is closing. They were always busy throughout the years. The actual Sears closed a year ago. Inova hospital will be building a new large regional hospital on the Sears and Auto Center site. Construction will start within the next couple years.
The only thing Eddie ever "had the pulse" on was his own bank account. A lot of the issues at Sears started long before Eddie, but he sure wasn't the person to revive or save any department of the struggling company.
