Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Something I noticed

Little by little the experienced people that work in my location are being harassed or mistreated into quitting. After a week or two we end up hiring someone younger who has never worked retail before and the time/money it takes to train them is wasted because he/she never lasts for more than a few months at best. Then it’s back to square one. I don’t understand why we are having this issue. The employees who quit were outstanding workers and it makes me wonder why they were being “pushed” out to begin with.

Captain, that must mean that you are in charge! Make the most of it! Just be careful going up the river!

I'm a merchandiser captain and we lost a great merchandiser manager. Now we stuck with someone who only knows visual and not backing up the merchandiser team most of the time. I've never seen a manager be off so much when we setting up for the holidays. He gets upset when he gets a call about a problem with the truck and he's off. The problem gets bigger because my new store manager favorite excuse is he's learning his position. It's been 5 months already. I've seen managers come in and help when they off or pop in just to make sure things going smoothly with the 8030 team. Since my store changed managers it's been hard getting simple things done because nobody really know what's going on and don't know how to lead. I've lost most of my access to things and I'm getting the run around about fixing it but the still keep saying I'm a captain.

This is why it is better to be unionized. I work in an union store and you have seniority and job protection and they can’t fire you for just anything or have AP come and make up something to fire you. All the other non-union Macy’s stores are always going after the employees who have been there too long and are making too much money and have too much PTO. Makes no sense when you could just cut the BS jobs like the 100s of incompetent managers we have who do nothing all day but walk around or sit in the office. Too many managers.

This has been happening all over the company for at least the last five years…. Macy’s has been trying to “rid itself” of overpriced talent. Of course, top management had no clue that such overpriced talent was what kept the place running. Typical.

I went through it and was even told they needed someone younger in my position. Sounds unreal but it happened. After there was a complaint filed they brushed it under the rug and all I saw next was the door.
There are stories to be told hang tight!!!!

Going through it right now. I’m considering retirement before they send AP to make something up to fire me. I want to go out my way. Seen it happen twice this year already.

The pandemic just accelerated the process of getting rid of experienced/seasoned employees who made too much money, had benefits and PTO. This is a company that claims to want talented people but nothing can be further from the truth. Now, everything is coming back to bit them in the a-s. Plenty of positions are now part time without benefits and still not enough help to staff the stores properly. It's a sad situation and they will reap what they sow.
