Salaried Managers Running Around Like Headless Chickens

You should see what’s going on in my store. The staffing shortage is so bad that the salaried managers are being forced to do overnights and extra hours to keep up. Overtime is forbidden (though I don’t really know anyone who would take it even if it was offered) so some departments are being left empty all day long. And we recently had a district manager walk which was hilarious to behold.

The DM ran them around the store complaining about nearly everything and when they went to grab people to force them to do their work lists, there was no one in three departments to do any of it!! They were forced to spend a couple of days doing it all themselves! LMFAO The looks on their faces was something I’ll treasure forever. Two of them had to work on their days off to get this done before the DM returned and boy were they pi---d off.

It’s glorious to see upper management getting a good taste of what we deal with every day. The lack of help is so bad in my district that sales are a disaster, which is putting the senior managers and even the DM in a real mess.

I watch customers storm out of my store every day. Freight is piling up because so many on the stocking crew have quit or called out. Basic tasks are being ignored or just faked. I don’t think we’ve done the IRP process for real in a couple of weeks. Oh, this is getting ugly and messy, which is wonderful to me. Just realizing the mess this company is in and what’s about to happen to them makes me smile all day long. And the best part? The company did this all to themselves! Their greed and ignorance has driven away their best people and left them in a complete nightmare. I can’t wait to see our LTR scores this week. Maybe we’ll break 50 again! LOL

Staffing is so bad at my store floor associates are required to work on a register at least an hour a day.

HR at Lowe's has never figured out how to properly do payroll when sales shift up and down. Maybe because those HR folks who get promoted are the bu-t kissers and not the actual ones with experience and knowledge to help resolve the issue.

This has always been standard operating procedure at Lowes, even before Marvin. You only get so many hours to run a store on and once those are used up then salaried people have to fill in the gap because they have no effect on overtime. I saw it all the time in the stores that I worked in and was one reason I never aspired to be an ASM—when you break down what they earn vs how many hours they work, they actually make LESS per hour many times than what the higher paid hourly people in the stores make. I had a female ASM/ops mgr that was over me for some time and she absolutely hated me because with overtime(I was in delivery) I actually made very close and sometimes more than she did.

The pressure was to much to bear with my former ASM. He died after to much pressure from district manager and store manager. I left two months ago because of the job unrealistic expectations. Sad times!

Yep, every store in my market is grossly understaffed. My store is not quite as bad as the original poster's but not that far behind. We must have a dozen job openings but our existing staff is quitting as fast as they can do any hirings. Most of the new hires don't last more than a month or two. The customer survey scores are steadily falling which means it is becoming increasingly obvious that our customers are not satisfied with service they are receiving. Looking forward to Lowe's Q3 comps free falling.

I can’t get people to do over time even when it is offered. During the busiest part of the season, not one of my associates would take a minute of extra time. They hated the company and senior management so bad that they just laughed when I told them that the store manager was offering extra hours in preparation of a district walk.

It’s incredible to me that the top level of people in this company are this oblivious to what’s going on and how hated they are. Are they really this clueless or are they all just a pack of liars? They act like the company is doing great and everyone is happy and productive. It’s like I live in a different world than they do.

Full time associates? What are those? I run two departments and I have 0 full time associates. I’ve lost so many in the past month that the assistant store managers are the only people available. I’ve asked if they’re ever going to fill the positions but they’ve been told directly by the district management team not to do so.

Lowe’s is trying to boost their profits by eliminating full time associates and their benefits. Let’s see how their Best Survey turns out this year.

He HAH. Our DM was overheard shouting at our SM that he (DM) was going to get fired due to poor Sales and "lack of execution". The DM told our SM that he (DM) would take down the SM first before he got it. Working here is like being in a Soap Opera. I long ago quit caring. Lots of opportunities elsewhere. There'll be no notice when I leave. He HAH.

Sc--w em, when I was working at Lowes, was always told that you need to have more sales in your dept if you want more help. Well I should have about 5 full timers not 2 full timers and 1 part timer after the sales we had this past year with covid sales. All Lies, now let them figure it out with everyone leaving how it is working out for them.

Let upper management know that having exempt employees perform the work of non exempts in order avoid paying overtime is a violation of federal labor laws.
If ya'll had a union the manager would already be walking out the door .
