Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Future of Shell- Chemicals/ Petrochemical Division

Anybody here work at Shell Chemicals, I work in Shell but not the chemicals buisness. I hear alot of talk about how this buisness is a pillar buisness for the future. However with possibly lower demand for plastics (where the majority of ethylene and propylene) end up in, wont this buisness suffer too in coming years. Maybe Im naive, also it seems like the chemical market is over saturated. Thoughts?

Demand seems like it will remain fairly constant based on production.

Chemicals is and has always been a fickle business. That's fine if your business is vertically integrated with a refinery, but Shell always manages to do its best to shoot itself in the foot. They're divesting their refineries. They will learn the hard way...again.
