Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

HDC

Facts:

100+ dispatchers fired July-September 2020

50+ have quit since.
20+ have left for other jobs since.
0 people hired.

Dispatchers are being pressured to work unrested for comp days.

Dispatchers are being forced to work 2 jobs, simultaneously, because otherwise the job would go blank.

Dispatchers forced to work jobs they don’t know. Unable to contact trains or MoW in a timely fashion in the event of an emergency.

Corridors, who haven’t dispatched in years are being forced to dispatch because dispatching jobs would be blank.

A class is being hired in October. What previously was a stellar 6 month training program is being fast tracked to 4 months to get warm bodies in the chair as fast as possible. What do you bet the historical 25% failure rate in class is closer to 0% this time around?

How’s everyone else’s department doing under the new “safe” and “efficient” mantra of PSR?

Well quit doing it and I agree. But you have to many youngsters out there that have no clue about unions and that you don't cross crafts. And you're absolutely right on the FRA saying they are in on this greed as well as well as our unions. But once a catastrophic derailment happens it will all come to light and they will have to answer to all the questions as to why they let all the qualified inspectors/ workers go.. All for the greed of them!

So quit doing it. It’s that simple, quit doing it. What the fu-k are they going to do if everyone quits putting up with this sh-t?

This is a disaster waiting to happen. Dispatching is a difficult job under the best of circumstances, and impossible to do safely when overworked. The FRA will do nothing until a major accident is attributed to these cuts and mismanagement of resources. This once was a great place to work, but now it’s just a shell of what it was.

The amount of money spent by this company on trains sitting because they can’t get ahold of the dispatcher is staggering.

Nice to hear that PSR made it to the dispatchers. Now you know how the other crafts feel. We have been dealing with this bs since Obummer declaired war on coal. Might as well quit your sniffling, we ultimately don't care.

They may all “pass” but how many will quit out of this new class? My bet is 5 will be left after 6 months on the job. They’ll get buried under running two territories at once after having just learned them and quit due to stress.

UP will never learn.

I'm in signal too, PSR has also caused my ticket count to increase. Biggest reason is the dispatchers keep blocking crossings for long periods of time with the longer trains. Motorists call the police dept and complain, police dept calls omaha. I get dispatched just to report the crossing is working as intended, there is a train within the crossing. My ticket count goes up and I get grilled and pressured to make it go back down and "get back on track".

They keep putting more and more on signal maintainers, bigger territories, more crossings and equipment to test and maintain but yet with same amount of man power. Been with railroad going on 14 years, I have never felt so overwhelmed with all the extras. PSR pushes till the breaking point and then backs off an inch to maintain. Our responsibilities keep growing no end in sight.
