Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

What skills does your store manager lack?

Some of the main skills that every SM should have:

  • leadership
  • motivation
  • EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
  • multi-tasking
  • business development, etc.

My SM unfortunately doesn’t have any of those skills and I wonder how he got to that position in the first place. It would be much more bearable to work here if most SMs had the skills that people in those positions really need to have.

My former Manager was more into flash than substance. He liked the people with outgoing personalities who came across as go getters. A lot of those people ended up leaving for better jobs or getting in trouble for some reason. People like me who did their job, went above and beyond quietly and delivered a quality product, for whatever reason he didn't care for. Managers need to get out and actually manage, lead by example and work with your people. Not sit in the office on Teams calls most of your day. I've worked with some really good SM's, but some others not so much, i'm sure a lot of you can relate.
Talk is cheap!! Don't say you're going to help with a concern and NOT follow through.

Store manager was covering for people stealing in our store for years. No integrity or honesty in the store at all...

Hey! It's all about the process! Macy's executive screening process tends to retain and promote like minded individuals. It's not surprising that manager attributes seem rather uniform. Vote! Do you prefer the "Shady" managers or the "Woke" managers better? These days the control knob is hard over to the left for "Woke" managers. This seems to be the new normal. Get used to it.

Sadly they don't value skills, but what you look like, and how much they pay you. Outstanding people were let go due to money and it drained the store until they shutter the doors, permanently by the way.

Mine listens to the wrong people. She believes the past leaders will prevail for her and those who get things done are useless. She trusts the wrong people. She can’t think for herself. It’s the book or her clique or it’s nothing.
