How true are the rumors that we're looking at a major round of closings before the end of the year? I usually ignore rumors, but I've heard this mentioned enough times in the past month or so that I'm starting to worry. I'm still thinking there's not much truth to it but it'd be nice to get a confirmation by somebody in the know.

It is really just stupid to think that Staples wants to close ANY store. If a store is not profitable after a multitude of years, management changes, marketing efforts in the area etc... There really isn't a purpose to keep it open, especially as a national retailer you probably have a store 15-30min away. There are many things that Staples cannot forecast such as a rent increase. The sad truth is, not all stores this day and age will be profitable. Unless you make difficult decisions, you won't have a company to work for. How is that so hard to see?
We heard our store was closing from our clients. A town planner, a builder and just about everyone in town. No one confirmed it on our side yet so its officially a rumour. There are major signs though and all the staff who have been there a while are looking for new jobs while management keeps trying to hire up and push for faster pace.
I believe we are closing. I believe our DM knows it but can not say. But Just because it is good for business a lie is a lie. A lair is a lair. But until they say we are done its a rumour and our experiened staff just plugs away like nothing is up working as hard as ever because thats what you do.
