The Vaccine Requirement is a dangerous precedent for the company to take on. Even though I, myself, have no issues with any individual choosing to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine, the "Mandate" aspect is the dangerous component.
If you notice, anytime Brian or another EVP speaks on this, chat and Q&A are disabled. This is likely because they do not want employees discussing with one another. I would venture to say that more employees are hesitant of this mandate than they like to believe. Even if you are pro-vaccine, you can still be against the mandate.
It is also incredibly unfair to not share all of the details with all associates so that we know the risk vs. reward. For example, it is unfair to not be absolutely clear what happens on November 2nd. The FAQ simply says associates could be "subject for termination". They cannot guarantee that all unvaccinated associates will be terminated because they don't know the number yet. What if 1,000 employees do not get vaccinated? They cannot terminate that many employees (even though we can see that possibility). CareFirst is a diverse workforce and not everyone is a robot that just believes everything said from the executive leaders.
We also have no data on what the vaccination exemption process looks like. This is NOT a coincidence. They want employees to be scared into following the mandate. The uncertainty is what will drive people to adhering to the mandate. This is ethically wrong. Give people all of the information so each person can make the best decision for them. What if the exemption process is not implemented until Oct. 1, someone applies, and it is denied Oct. 15. You now only have 15 days to get fully vaccinated, which according to the CDC, includes the 2nd shot from Pfizer or Moderna, so how can someone be fully vaccinated by Nov. 1? Its unfair to not have that in place AT the announcement.
Lastly, this precedent is dangerous because it makes you wonder what is next. Will there be a surcharge on those that have medical or religious exemptions and are not vaccinated? For CF members in the future, will premiums be raised for the unvaccinated or for groups who do not mandate vaccinations in the future? Will benefits be suspended for members who choose to not get vaccinated and end up in the hospital due to COVID?
It simply makes you wonder.
Again, the encouragement of vaccine is not the issue. The Mandate is the concern.
